Vegas Tournament Structures
Im heading to vegas tonight for 9 days. Im likely going to play in 1 WSOP event (not the main event) but I also really want to play many smaller tourneys. I have a list of all the daily tournaments (and theres a bunch!) but all it gives is the buyin. It doesnt provide the blind structure or the starting chip count (most important to me). Im looking to play the $100 - $200 buyin range but I will not play with weak starting chip counts. At 25/50 I want to find tourneys with at least $3000 chips preferrably $5000. Does anyone have any knowledge on this or any site that would give this information. Ive been searching all over and cant find anything. Short of calling 40 hotel poker rooms to ask...

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
From my experience, there are no tournaments that meet you're specifications. Any $100-200 buy-in event is going to have a fast structure. Casinos don't make enough money in those tournaments.
You have to go up to $500 buy-in to get any kind of decent structure. Think about it. $100+$10 with 100 players. The casino makes 1,000 and locks up 10 tables and dealers. Not very profitable for the casino. You'll get maybe $1,000 chips and 20 min rounds most of the time. Most internet players don't realize how bad 20 min rounds suck. Sometimes the button will barely make it around the table once in 20 min, especially if you have a guy that's watched too much of the WPT and thinks it's necessary to take 5 min to call/fold/raise each hand. |

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
I just got back from vegas for the wsop, and during my trio if i wasnt playing at the Rio, I was playing cash or scrounging around for tournements. But like previously stated there are not too many player freindly structures out there. I thought the Plaza daily tourneys were ok, but they only brought about 50 people, they say its a 60$ buyin but there is an optional rebuy and addon right away that makes the total cost 100$, and gives you either 3000, or 3500 chips, which is by far the most play ive seen in a daily tourney. Theres also the Bellagio tourneys, but those are more expensive, 500 and 1050...but thats bout it.
Allot of the tournements have rebuy and addon periods right in the begining, and that can help with your chip count, butmost likely your gonna be startin with either 1000, or 1500 with 12-15 min blinds...yuk |

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
Yeah, I was looking at the Bellagio tourneys. I actually called there and you get 2000/3000 for the $500/$1000. The nugget also has 2000 chip starts on most of their small games (100-300 buyin). Did you play any series events? I have been planning on playing the $1500 tomorrow and the $2500 next week but the chip counts are awful. I dont think i stand a chance in a 1500 tourney....even with 60 minute levels. Im very tight early and only get really aggressive once i hit my blind stealing stage.

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
Where did you get the list of all the vegas tournaments?
But yeah, you're not going to find a tournament with a ME like structure for just a few hundred dollars. They want you to go big or go home. |

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
Yeah, I understand why that is.....I was just hoping maybe there was one or two that had suitable structures. Needle in the haystack.

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
Did you play any event? What was the style of play with such a pathetic starting chip count?

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
In the $100-200 range, I would recommend Binions Friday and saturday evening tournament (8pm). Buy in with option Rebuy IS $200. You get 3500 in chips. Rounds are 25 minutes. Usually 75-100 players.
The Plaza has ok tournaments. Turnout is generally low (30-50). You get 3500 chips for $100. Rounds are 20 minutes. However, they have accelerated the blind structure within the last month (eliminated the 75/150 round and introduced antes after the 100/200 level). This has shortened the tournaments. |

Re: Vegas Tournament Structures
The 2pm at Binion's doesn't have an ideal structure, but it is decent and the fish factor more than compensates for it. Add-on as you register and rebuy before hand 1, you'll thank me later.
