Default Swings... at 1/2

How often do you find yourself running extremely good, making 60BB or so in 400 hands only to loose it all just as fast the day after.

I tell you I've tried this a load of times since I started playing 1/2. Either I do great and money coming from everywhere or I can't make a single good flop in 100Hands.

Sorry for posting about beats I jsut want to know wether you guys seem to take an occasionally downsswing of 50BB and more.

And how do you do when you are aren't hitting anything. Play more tight or just grind it out.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA. Try 100. Then you will start contemplating the death of the nearest farm animal or cousin.

Don't change your game. Play your style. +EV long rung. Long run is the key word(s) here.

Iv'e taking 100BB downs before... (0,5/1,0)

All in all I guess I'm just whining since I'm on a cold run for 4000+ hands.

Hard to come by but I'll stick with my game for another 10,000 before I'll go complete nuts.

losing 60 in one day after taking a couple days to earn it? often enough.

100 hands? this is nothing.

tighter or grind? grind.

My last .5/1 session at Empire -- 208 hands, 13.94 VPIP, 5.29 PFR, 44.14 W$SD...amazing cards I was getting. Sometimes you just dont get hands and you get sucked out on. Like clayton said, long run.

Yesterday, for example, I deposited $500 to get a bonus of $100 at PP. I had to play 700 raked hands to clear it. I played 4 tables of 1/2 and after a 1100 hands I was up 85BB and had cleared my $100 bonus. I was running good and I knew it so I decided rather than quit, I 'd play to 1500 hands and call it a day. 400 hands later and I ended my bonus clearing day -10BB, so glad of the bonus to keep me from feeling like I'd wasted 8 hours.

Then, to make matters worse, I went back to playing my rakeback account on Empire, I played 800 hands, for the first 400 or so I ran at an average VPIP of 9% (I'm normally 17%), and W$WSF of 20%. For the last 400 hads I ran at VPIP of 18%, and W$WSF of 8%. Total loss of 70BB (only cos I won 2 $100+ pots from a maniac who raised all the way every time with anything)

My day then in terms of 2/4 BB, -75BB! ... and to be honest, even though I dont recall ever feeling quite so unlucky, this isn't my worst day or my worst run or even all that bad by comparison to some days I've had. This month has been a bad one so far averaging just over .2BB/100 against the 3 previous months when I averaged 2.1BB/100. Whats worse, is this month I've played 3 times as many hands as any previous month and there's still 10 days left of June! This brings my BB/100 down to nearer 1.5BB/100 and I have to accept that 1.5BB/100 is nearer the true measure of my meagre abilities to beat this game. I just hope this doesn't continue into the sub 1BB/100 range

Down with 50BB after 4000 hands kind a hard to believe that this is only due to unluck and wierd cards...

You can go break even for up to 20k-30k hands or more.

Thanks to the wonders of PokerGrapher, I've concluded that I suffer a downswing of 50BB or more, on average, about once every 2k-3k hands. 50BB swings are very, very common.

(That's at .5/1, but I don't see why 1/2 would be much different. Your variance might be a little lower, but so will your winrate, so I guess I would expect similar downswings).

I was lucky enough to have my first (and so far only) 200 bb downswing when I started 1/2. I managed to make it all back and moved up to 2/4 as soon as I did. So, I moved up to 2/4 even though I wasn't an overall 'winner' at 1/2 (about .4bb/100), because I knew I was good enough to beat that game.
