Default AJo UTG limp fold.

Hmm... weird thing happened.

I had AJo UTG and for some reason I limped. I guess I just wanted to see what it felt like or something. I don't normally do this.

Anyways, folded to MP1 who raises. MP1 just sat down so I don't have PV displaying his stats yet, but I check a note on him and it says that he called down to the river vs a PFR with a low gutshot.

I take this to mean LPP for now, though LAP is possible.

The guy to his direct left thinks for like 10 seconds and makes it three bets. This guy's stats, after 100 hands, is 15 vpip 8 pfr. Now 8 pfr isn't so bad... but 8 pfr probably means something like 3-5% pf re-raises.

Anyways, it's folded to me and I fold.

Seem okay?

Also, I normally raise AJo in UTG... Most people do that at the 0.5/1 game?

Initially I raise, but when it's two back to me I'll fold AJo.

I limp AJo UTG 10handed usually, since I usually feel the game is not loose enough to raise, but I can see many people disagreeing with me at .5/1. I only raise it mp or later. FWIW this is SSHE tight game hand chart recomendation. Raise EP is in loose games.

So, I guess the question is how many people were seeing the flop on average?

I agree w/ the fold but only after a re raise from a guy like you described. Typical .5/1 player re-raise I would call some of the time, probably not all the time.

I think you were correct to fold to a 3-bet PF with AJo. Your hand could easily have been dominated by one of the raisers.

My understanding is that its quite close between raising and calling UTG with AJo. As it happens, I prefer to limp in with it.

With limping, you dont help to build a big pot, which you can then become tied to post-flop.

This gives you the advantage of being able to out play your calling opponents if you connect well with the flop, because they will be wrong to call with their weak draws in a small pot.

My default is to raise AJo UTG. But, if I've been at a table for a while with other decent players who I think even bother to notice what I'm doing I'll limp sometimes.

I think it's an easy fold when it's two back. Your post suggests that the player who 3-bet sat there for a while - implying a read something to the effect of 'hmm... the raiser has loose preflop standards... I'm going to reraise ATs here to get it HU...." Maybe, but in my experience online timing tells are unreliable at best.

You make a good point.

There was a delay before he acted, but that doesn't mean that he was thinking about this hand.

Very good point.

As it turns out he had QQ. The raiser had A8s and called down with it unimproved.
