going down to AC tonight
Will probably get there around 9-10pm
Never played live before... looking for a 2-5NL game... Heard the Taj was good, wondering if anyone can give me any advice on where to play / how to change up my game live (winning online player, first time in AC, play alot of local games but mostly freezeouts or stupid dealers choice games) I really don't know anything at all about playing in AC... literally nothing in fact... i searched in this forum but the results weren't really working out for me... Looking for even the most basic advice on buying chips/getting on waiting lists/how much cash to bring/etc... Sorry if this post doesn't belong here.. |

Re: going down to AC tonight
I played NL at the Borgata for the first time a couple weeks ago (1-2, not 2-5, although they did have 2-5 games running). From what I understand, the wait list at the Borg will probably be crazy long at that time of night on the weekend, so the Taj may be a better bet. Just ask the person at the front desk in the room to put your initials on the list for the appropriate game.
I had pretty much the same history as you (winning online player, only played 2-4 limit twice live in a casino before). A couple of tips: - At both the Borg and the Taj, you are supposed to buy your chips from the cage instead of from the table at the start, although you can re-buy chips at the table. - For a 2-5 table, you'll proabably want to buy in with red chips ($5). I bought $100 in white chips ($1; made sense to me, with $1-$2 blinds, right?); I felt like such a noob as everybody else was sitting with reds. - Standard pre-flop raises were much bigger than I was used to online ($12 - $20 in a 1/2 game). Also, the game varied rediculously while I was there; when I first sat down (about 9 AM on a Sunday) half the players at the table had been up all night playing and drinking. After playing in about 10 hands I'd picked up QQ in EP and raised to $15 (I had about 85$). I was raised and re-raised; I think I would have tossed this hand online, but given that one of these players was one of the all-night drunks (the other I dodn't know much about) I called the all-in raise (took a while to get all those whites in the center). Original raiser players flip QJo(!!) and I triple up. Nice introduction. As the game went on into the afternoon, though, the table tightened up considerably. It swings pretty quickly; the addition or subtraction of one or two players can really change things. Don't forget to tip the dealers and waitresses. $1 for each pot you win and each drink is fine. BTW, you may want to do a search of the B&M cardroom forum; they have plenty of info for AC and cardrooms in general. |

Re: going down to AC tonight
2 5 is hard to get into buddy. there are long lists. 1-2 is easier games just becasuse there are ar lot more of them. Get your chips first at the cashier. ALso, play tight people are horrible there tight game at 1-2 is guareented win. 2 5 a little more difficult but the same TAG wins it.

Re: going down to AC tonight
I play a lot at the Tropicana and highly recommend playing there. Games are extremely soft at the 1/2 and 2/5 level. At times they spread a 5/10 game that can also be quite good.
One suggestion is to first take a walk around the room and check out how the tables are playing. Many times there is more money at the 1/2 games than at the 2/5 games. Also, if you sit at a table that doesnt have much action dont be afraid to ask the floorperson for a table change. Max buyins are: 300 at 1/2 500 at 2/5 1000 at 5/10 |
