Default Blind Steal

I was trying to get heads up with the BB. He is a buddy who usually calls preflop and will fold flop or turn unimproved. SB was tight through about 40 hands stats 3/0/.5 Hadn't seen him do anything but fold. Did I play this right?

Thats some really tight stats, but limited sample size. But thats some pretty tight stats. Normally I'd call, call, bet if checked to, but this looks like a flop fold to me.

I'd just call the flop, call the turn, and call/bet the river. Of course, raising does have the added bonus of knocking out the BB.

I dislike the turn fold. Even if he has a bigger kicker, do you realize how many river cards give you a chop? Say he has AT, you've got 12 outs to a chop. He could be playing this aggressively with a lot worse aces, given your open raise from the cutoff. I'd look him up.

I'd normally look him up also. But since the board paired the best I can do is probably split. If he has A and his kicker is a diamond I've got less outs to a split. Since he was tight and not aggressive I didn't think this pot was worth fighting for.

I would probably fold to the flop 3bet. Pairing your kicker is worthless because the board is paired, so that takes outs away from you. If this guy has played one hand in forty, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here.

On the turn, I agree with what you said, you are looking at a weak draw to a chop at best. I think this is one of the rare times that you can fold a pair of aces heads up. Good fold.

Why did you raise the flop?

I call/call/call bet if checked to.

If you raise anywhere, you can get 3-bet by a hand that crushes yours. This is pretty WA/WB, no?

Good question. Mainly to see where I was at and if he just calls so does my BB 'buddy'. Should I have folded to the 3 bet or peel one like I did. I would hung around if a 4 or 5 had come. I think the 7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] was about the worst possible card on the turn.

I would just call the flop. If I had more hands on the SB to know the read was solid I may actually fold the flop. The 7 wasn't necessarily a bad card for you. The board pairing may have given you some additional outs to split the pot those times you're behind. I don't really think the turn fold is bad though especially considering you raised and were 3-bet on the flop.

I thought it was bad since he probably has me outkicked. If his kicker is a [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] I've got less outs to a split and I can't spike a 4 and win.

Why call the flop? Are you calling down? I don't have many hands with SB but since he seems very tight I thought he may bet out with KK or QQ to see who has an A. Since he 3 bet I gave him credit for an A. This only cost me 1bb, if I call down I'd lose 2bb. Also if I was ahead I would win more since the BB woulda called had SB not 3bet.
