Default Party Step Higher Step 4 Strategy

I am soon to play my first step higher step 4 and after looking at the payout structure have a question. I am beginning to think that trying to finish in the 3'rd or 4'th position and taking the guaranteed 3K to 3.5K may be a better strategy than actually trying to qualify for the step 5 (on your first try at least). If you could do this it gives you approximately 100 buy ins at the step higher 1 level. Thoughts?

Adjust your play to what the table is doing..If it's full of people wanting to get to the step 5, it will help you limp into 3rd or 4th place quite easily. If the table is trying to reach the guarenteed payout, you have to go for the step 5 entry.
