He was allowed to check from the blinds so could be playing any two cards. I would have bet the flop as you did, then perhaps check/fold the turn, dodgy board - he has 79...
Or perhaps my play is too weak? I am just learning to steer clear of tricky situations and this is one of them. |

Pushing when there's four straight cards on the board seems like a bad idea. I'd be betting less on the river (say $20), or even checking if I knew Villain liked to draw. That said, I'm probably losing my stack as well.

I think this is fine, but I'm check/folding the river to any significant bet. I'm calling anything up to 10$ if it's safe to assume that he would be at least 1/2 pot betting his straight, or if 4-1 pot odds are good enough because you've seen him bluff/overplay some hands in the past.
Edit: I don't see how you "felt" you had the best hand on the river. Any 7 in the hands of a loose caller would play this hand exactly the way it was played out up to the river. When the 4 falls, I think it's safe to assume that you're beat and fold if he shows strength. |

i'm with you here, bear. i'll call a bit bigger bet on the river, but not much bigger. no way am i getting stacked off, though.
