Default World Series of Poker Robots

In the Sunday edition of the Los Angeles Times, I read a front page article about online poker bots. Next month, there will be $100,000 up for grabs in Las Vegas for the best poker bot. Do we need to worry?

No. They are playing against themselves. This is like saying Carl Lewis should fear the special olympian runners.

Sounds fascinating, I would be interested in seeing some hand histories from that event after it happens.

After two weeks of programming, Mages said, "I could sit down at a 50-cent table, put 50 bucks in the account, go to bed and wake up with at least $75." The most Mages said he won that way was $250; he never lost.

Is it just me, or are these guys admitting to cheating?

It's just you. The Terms of Service of most online poker rooms do not disallow automated ai play. Party and skins are the notable exceptions. Get your facts straight before you accuse someone of cheating.

The Poker Bot Tournament is presented by Golden Palace and is probably nothing more than another marketing stunt from their side.

They also state in their press release that the winning poker pot will challenge the HUMAN winner of the traditional World Series of Poker

Added a blog entry on the subject if anyone is interested.

Seriously folks, if you're worried about bots, move up in limits. While a bot can make enough off of bad player's mistakes at the lower limits, they will never survive at the higher limits. The blinds will eat them alive waiting for correct ABC hands and positions.

I would say even as low as 200NL you would be safe, but definitely by 400NL.

I am only referring to NLHE, don't know about limit.

Why would the blinds eat them away? the blinds are incremently as safe on the lower limits as the higher limits... its the same game just more money.
