Not speaking to poker stars specifically, but I believe most players here use Neteller for transferring money to and from the poker sites.

Hi Nigel -
The best way is probably via:

Neteller

You can learn all about it at their website.

I just turned 18 yesterday and planned on starting a Neteller account but under the drop down list of years to be born in 1987 is not there so Neteller is obviously not the way to go for some people. This has been a problem for 6 months and they havent fixed it. I know this affects like .001% of 2+2ers but it still makes me mad and you would think after all the business they're losing they would change it but they havent.

I used to do it through my Visa Debit Card, and since I played mostly Party Poker, it was fine, though the cashouts took 5 days to complete.

I got Neteller, and it's a lot easier to bonus whore and moer around now, as it takes less than a day to cash out (2 hours on Party Poker, actually). If your Visa provider allows you to deposit directly into gaming sites, you can dodge all Neteller fees by depositing money into Party Poker directly from your Visa () and then cashing out to Neteller When you want to move funds to your bank, you can then move the money to Party Poker and withdraw to the bank. It'll take 5 days to cash out to the bank, but if you don't need the money fast and are just trying to save it, then you might as well save on the fees.

...or you could just not do InstCash, and you'll avoid the only thing that has a fee.
