party 3/6 vs party 5/10

A friend of mine just convinced me that the party 3/6 is actually tougher to beat. I went up to 5/10 a bit last year, but my bankroll wasn't big enough to suffer the variance. Looking at it now though (through his pokertracker stats), I'm shocked at how loose the game is, and how soft it can be. Seems like a tighter game down at 3/6. I understand now how the variance swallowed me whole last time. I was losing to 2-3 outers all the time (it felt like), but that's just because more loose players were taking 66 or A6 to the river against my KK or AK (and hitting).

I think once I get my bankroll up, I'm going back to 5/10. Anyone observe anything similar to this ?

I play both 3/6 and 5/10 and I have no idea why people say:

1. That 3/6 is tough
2. That 5/10 is loose.

I think we all encounter different tables and some of us probably have much better game selection that others. In a way everyone is right but, really, I know I am running good right now but 3/6 just seems so obvious to me that I'm always a little taken aback when people say its tough.

Yes, I found that, too. Maybe part of it is so many 2+2ers are on 3/6.

I'm running well at 3/6 also, which is what's ultimately keeping me from moving up. But having seen the level of play at 5/10, I wonder how long it'll be before I make that move. The justification a few people gave me is that younger more intelligent players may have the poker smarts, but not the bankroll. So they play 2-4, 3-6

An older guy who just wants to play some cards won't come grind it out there, and will probably do 5/10, 10/20. But that's just a hypothesis, I'm just as curious as the next guy about how valid any of these ideas are.

I've found SO many tables at 3/6 with 4-5 eagles grinding it out at 17-20% flops seen. At 5-10 last night I couldn't see a table with less then 4 guys over 40% !

The 5/10 (6 max) games are loose. There is almost always at least one 50%+ VPIPer at each table. But this does not necessarily make it easier. The aggression in these games is off the charts compared to 3/6. And the LAGs at 5/10 are a lot smarter than the LAGs at 3/6.

You guys are nuts if you're sitting around waiting for 4 guys with 40% or higher. You just don't find tables like that that often, and you don't need to. I'm happy to sit with 2 awful players, and then the weak-tight crowd who tries to play gOOt.

Really, if you can't adjust to a different kind of bad player you're going to spend too much time searching for tables that just don't exist.

Maybe my 5/10 table selection sucks b/c I've encountered some really, really tough players there and have nowhere near the ease I do at 3/6. I also admit that I don't feel as comfortable at 5/10 as I do 3/6, but that will come I"m sure.

Just because they don't play many hands doesn't mean they don't stink up the ones they do play.

The 5/10 full games are plenty soft. The problem is if you are going to play 5/10 you have a choice between full ring and shorthanded. IMO you are nuts if you play full ring.
