poker in Korea?
I'm in Seoul, Korea with parents visiting family and am bored out of mind. I couldn't find anyone I know out here and have nothing to do at all. I've seen some small gambling places with slot machines - does anyone know if there are any poker games out here? I'd prefer mid to high limit games but will play almost anything at this point.
thanks. |

Re: poker in Korea?
From what I hear, poker is a rarity in Korea. Your best bet is to post on some all-korean forums and find a home game.

Re: poker in Korea?
I hear that one of the hotel casinos (Walker Hill?) offers poker if enough players ask for it. On the rare occasions it happens it usually ends up being a PLO game.

BurningYen hit it.
Walker Hill Sheraton. Head to the basement of the hotel. I hope you know you won't find any Koreans playing...you'll need to recruit some GI's to fill the game. -Ryan |

Re: poker in Korea?
I was stationed in Korea for a year and wasn't able to find a game. One of the guys I worked with owned a couple bars in Seoul and a lot of the girls who worked for him were always trying to go with him on post just to play the slots at the "casino" there. Casino is in quotes because all they had were slots and it was just a room in the hotel, so it might not legally be defined as a casino but thats what we called it. I assumed from their excitement that slots and therefore gambling wasn't something they could do outside, although I could easily be wrong about that and in fact have never heard anything else to suggest one way or another whether gambling is legal in Korea. But I also flew hundreds of hours over the northern half of the country and never saw anything that looked like a casino, and I'd be surprised if I missed one. I would just play online, and be ready to fax a lot of personal documents to the online casinos cause I guess they don't like it when people log in from outside of their home country.

Re: poker in Korea?
Sometimes poker in New York City is indistinguishable from poker in Korea.

Re: poker in Korea?
IIRC gambling is only illegal for Korean citizens, which is why only foreigners are allowed in hotel casinos/gambling rooms like at the Sheraton.

Dunno about South Korea though. |
