Default Q6s blind defense

Live 6/12 Sunday afternoon at the MGM Grand Casino. New game that has just started, only a couple of orbits in. The game is playing tightish.

Folded to the button who raises. All I know about him is that he's a Vegas local who doesn't play terrible cards (he had folded most -- if not all -- of the previous hands). However, I made the assumption that he was capable of raising quite light in the situation, as he sort of paused before raising -- as though he wasn't going to raise until he found himself with the opportunity to steal the blinds.

Anyway, the SB folds, and I call with the Qh6h.

Flop is AQ3 two-toned; the two big cards were clubs, and the trey was not a heart.

What's my line here?

If Villan bets the flop call then when he bets the turn raise, I think. If called on the turn, take the free showdown UI. If 3-bet on the turn, call down.

Meh. Scratch that. Call/call/raise the river unless a K falls (or 2 more clubs).

If you sensed that much hesitation why not 3-bet pre-flop and lead?

Anyhoo, I think you should c/r and lead.

Vegas locals - in my opinion play a tighter game than the average. I would have folded pre-flop to him for a couple of reasons.

1) it's early in your session.
2) I'd give him the impression that I don't defend and I'm weak - use this later on.

But now you have seen the flop - I'd call and see what the turn produced.

I'm new - so take this with a pinch of salt.

Check/call the flop, donkbet the turn, evaluate your river action. A Vegas local will check the turn a lot after you call the flop.

checkraise the flop, lead the turn is the standard line against a decently wide range of PFR hands from button. I dunno how your average Vegas local might change this though.

Why is this better than check raising the flop and leading the turn?

'Cause the Vegas local is folding a lot of hands you want to call a flop checkraise.

A number of posters have advocated a check-raise on the flop here, as I assumed they would. I didn't like the idea of a check-raise at the time, and while I still don't really like it, I want to check my logic, so I decided to post the hand.

My thinking was that if I'm ahead, unless he has clubs or very specifically KJ or KT or something with a trey, I have him drawing to just a few outs. And that without these hands, he's likely to fold to my flop raise, or turn lead. He might fold KJ or KT, which would be great for me, but his range of hands at this point is pretty much just about anything; he's auto-betting the flop when checked to him like 99% of the time. So the hands he would fold that I would want him to fold represent a pretty small percentage of his hand range. And the pot is small enough that I don't mind him hitting his two- or three-outer once in a while if it means I collect bets from him on big streets when he doesn't hit, which will be the majority of the time.

I also think that the board is draw heavy enough that he will continue to bet with an inferior hand.

On the other hand, I am by no means certain that I'm ahead. And if I am behind and check/raise the flop, there's really no way I can avoid putting in a bet on every street; if I check any street, he'll read my flop checkraise as a shot at the pot and bet. He could also be perfectly content to let me bet his ace for him, if he has one, rather than raise it -- particularly if his kicker is weak.

In short, I don't see the value of an putting in the extra SB on the flop, given that I may be behind and that most of the hands I'm ahead of, he'll fold -- which I don't want, if he'll keep betting an inferior hand if I let him.

But I remain very open to criticism.

Thanks in advance.

-McGee
