Default QQ BB hand

Hi guys,

I haven't played poker in a week, so I visited the local casino last night to try my hand at some live poker. Tell me what you guys think.

Reads:

MP is a good playing older gentleman. He's probably made a pretty penny in his days playing this game.

CO is a slightly loose semi-aggressive college kid who's talked some strategy on the table. Most of this strategy being discussed is actually wrong however, but at least he's trying to play well.

Live 10/20

It's folded to the MP who raises. CO 3-bets. The SB folds and I call in BB with Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]Q [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. MP caps. CO groans a little and calls. I call.

Flop: A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I check. MP bets. CO glances at me for a quick second and then raises. I call. MP calls.

Turn: 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

I check. MP checks with 4 chips in his hand. CO has chips in his hands and hesitates looking at me and MP, then checks as well.

River: T [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

I glance at MP who has chips ready in his hands and I check. MP bets. CO stares at the board for a second and seems to agonize for a second before finally calling. I checkraise.

Thoughts?

Well your reads (assuming they aren't acts, which at low limits are usually pretty transparent) indicate that no one especially loves those aces. Ergo, as long as no one has KK, you are check-raising the river for value. And it's definetly a WA/WB situation, so it's fine to let them hang themselves on each street. Finally, you aren't getting reraised by a worse hand on the river, a weak ace might not three bet you (you are folding to a 3-bet though right?) and your hand looks like a slowplayed ace, so maybe someone with KK (if that's what the CO has) will fold some of the time, since he looks so reluctant here anyway.

Nice hand...quite interesting.

So you're against what hand range on the river here? TT-KK for MP? It seems you're likely ahead of CO agreed?

If CO truly agonized on the first call it seems he's very likely to fold to your check/raise. You're probably good against MP 40% of the time but it seems the real value is getting KK (or occasionally another QQ) to lay down here yes? If you're pretty certain MP will call with JJ-KK then I don't really like it. If you're really not sure if he'll call with JJ-KK or fold then I think I do like it...if that makes any sense.

from the description, it sounds as if you've sort of ruined CO's attempt to isolate MP.

for MP, what does a good player raise/cap pre-flop between two players that he checks through on the turn? i'd guess JJ-KK? KA pushes the issue on the turn, no?

if that hand range is about what we put MP on, i think the river CR is profitable as;

1. part of the time, we beat JJ & MP pays off.

2. part of the time, KK likely calls & doesn't 3-bet on this board (i don't play 10/20, but it seems crazy to me that anyone would fold KK here, esp. if closing the action, but if you do even very occasionally, it's a coup)

3. a small part of the time we chop QQ.

in all 3 scenarios we have at least the possibility of CO chipping in one more bet as per his loose tendencies.

what is Heroine's plan in the event of a 3-bet?
am i too quick to dismiss CO as a non-threat in this pot?

Man...interesting hand. I don't have much of anything worthwhile to say.

But let me ask this. If you're the CO, how would you play KK here? Would you fold it on the river c/r?

Not yet... I don't think I fold KK in that spot, closing the betting rounds... I don't know about this play, AQ maybe scared of AK with you calling utg... but I don't think he is laying down... I make a crying call with KK, and AQ even AJ..

With 2 players, I think the only way you are winning is with 2 folds, I think you get one caller for sure, if MP folds, the CO cries his KK or JJ calls, if MP Calls, CO folds it down.

I don't like the raise... even with the raise, someone is calling, I would bet out on the river, as it seems they both put you on the A, and it looks like you were going for a check raise on the turn.

I'd have a really hard time putting you on an ace given the action. Calling two on the flop would set off warning bells in my head. Your turn could be a whiff c/r, could be something else. The river check seems weird though. I'm not sure how many levels of thought are involved with these players but if you're holding an ace I'd think you played it very strangely and call. Seems the other two each have a PP, probably both above TT. MP might have the K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]and another K, kid with JJ?
