Book Request: Hold\'em Anecdotes
This is a strange request, but I'd like to see a 2+2 book of all hold'em anecdotes from the field. Ideally, true stories that reflect some nugget of play-truth. I love the Poker Essays series, particularly the anecdotes and little stories.

Re: Book Request: Hold\'em Anecdotes
Actually, make that poker anecdotes. I don't necessarily mean to restrict the idea to just hold'em.

Re: Book Request: Hold\'em Anecdotes
Doyle Brunson wrote a book called "Wisdom of a Poker Champion," which is basically what you're asking for. Fun read.

I'll look for it. He had some great stories in Super/System.

Re: Book Request: Hold\'em Anecdotes
lol. This one guy I know said that its a great book, and that I should read it. He said "I haven't read super system, but there's a great book out there called poker wisdom of a champion thats a lot shorter"
lol Incidentally, I have read it, and the anecdotes are quite amusing. Does anyone know where this book came from? Is it from cardplayer essays or is it ghostwritten? Did Doyle write the whole thing? This one guy told me that doyle didn't write it. |

Re: Book Request: Hold\'em Anecdotes
May not be what you're looking for, but the Matt Matros book "The Making of a Poker Player" is great storytelling and written wonderfully.

Real Poker II, by Roy Cooke.
Each chapter describes a hand played by the author, in anecdote format. |

[ QUOTE ]
Is it from cardplayer essays or is it ghostwritten? [/ QUOTE ] In the foreword to its earlier incarnation, "According to Doyle", it says that much of its contents appeared as articles in (earlier incarnations of) Poker Player and Gambling Times. I've heard that these are Doyle's stories but that Mike Caro did the formal writing. I don't know if that's true or not. IMHO, even if it is, it doesn't diminish the book or Doyle. |
