Default 5/10 Live hand. Donkey call?

5/10 Live.

UTG limp with 800

UTG+1 limps, UTG+2 limps

You limp in mid position with AJo and 1400. SB limps, BB checks.

Flop ($60)

A92 rainbow.

check check, UTG leads for 20, fold fold, you raise to $70, fold fold, UTG deliberates for a minute and calls the extra $50.

Turn ($200)

3 off suit.

UTG checks. You bet $200, UTG stares at you for a long time, and moves in for another $520.

Pause for a moment. After calling the $200, there is now, $600 in the middle. The UTG player is a young player, relatively tight, pretty standard player, definately not bad. Has built his chips up from a $200 buy in. But hasn't moved all in in the three hours you've been playing with him.

You ask for a count and he's trembling slightly, something else you havent seen the entire night.

What is your play?

Easy fold. He has 22 or 99.

you have no real hands beat and are drawing dead to a set.

this would have been a nice spot to exercise pot control after you raised the flop, got the pot heads up with position, and had him check to you on the turn.

what are you expecting a tight straightforward player to be playing a big pot with you that you can beat? nothing.

realize you are likely beat when he weak-leads/calls your flop raise.

and if you happen to be spaced out on mescaline, you should still know you are dead when he check-raises the turn all in when he knowingly has no folding equity.

I think you are overplaying your hand on the turn quite a bit. What range of hands do you put him on to call the flop raise? You're only beating like AT, A8 and less. I think checking the turn wouldn't be bad. If he's relatively tight, you certainly can't put him on a gutshot either. On the turn, I'd bet about 120 or so. Losing your stack with top pair J kicker in an unraised pot is pretty awful IMO.

Fold. There's not really a single hand you're beating that he could be doing this with. Limped A,K is the least of your worries, a set isn't unlikely at all. I really don't see your A,J being good here against a very tight player who "hasn't moved all-in in the three hours" you've played together but suddenly chooses to do so now.

This is an easy fold, just as the turn is an easy check for pot control reasons.

in this hand i was actually UTG and also had AJ.

BUT, i was quite sure that the way the hand played out that I could get the mid position player to fold, knowing that he couldnt have had a better hand.(he would have definately raised with AQ AK 99 and even 22) Through the night he had been overplaying AT and other weak aces. A9 was a slight concern, but I didnt think he would be firing so hard with a hand like that.

When i checkraised all in on the turn, he thought for a long time, and finally called, much to everyone at the tables surprise, espically mine.

This is a perfect illustration of the unpredictablenesss of a predictable player and the "value" of a tell. Dan H. in his
book says 10% of the time players have absolutely nothing, and
this applies to "rocks"
