Default Is it possible to make $10 an hr? Live? 40 hrs a week?

I'm about to go take a few shots to prepare for the flamefest/dreamcrushing, but here's my question.

How unlikely do you think it would be to move to Atlantic city with $2,000 start off playing omaha/8 half kill at the Taj, and average $10 an hr? My friend wants to know, and he currently makes $6.50 an hour as a clerk. Uhm....let my fiend know what you think.

Cuz it's for my friend. My friend wantas to know.

Keep the job, the risk/reward is far too great. Tell him to play online in the evening after work, far much more profitable.

Second the motion for playing on the net, .5-1.00, to
learn the game.

Low limit O/8 may be the easiest game to learn to beat,
and can have a better $$/Hr rate than the same size
HE game live.

But going in without being established at beating something
a bit tougher than Party .5-1 is a bad idea, IMO.

Unless the people there actually learn to play the game its very doable at 5/10 (btw its a full kill). However prepare to go broke regardless. Its not exactly a cheap area to live. Like others have said stick to playing online after work. You'll get alot more practice and have potential to improve your game enough where you can beat higher limits for a decent $/hr (you'll need to play hold'em or high limit stud though as 5/10 is the highest O/8 that regularly goes).

A loose .5/1 game is much safer and can get you pretty close to $10/hour if you six-table between two sites. or something.

Yeah, that's feasable, but the trick is finding 6 simultaneously good games. O/8 is still a bit of a minority game, and while there are some terribly juicy games to be found at certain times of the day, it's gonna be tough finding six of them any time of the day.

If the person is only makes 6.50 an hour now, not really much risk.

1. I don't really like the idea of playing a kill game. You will be forced to give up part of your winnings from every hand.

2. Playing live means tipping and other expsenses that will make it pretty hand to win a full BB/hr at a game the deals pretty slowly.

You - I mean your friend - should try play 3/6 or 2/4 online and bonuse whore to build up a bigger bank.

Well yes there is, because if he loses his money, there is no guarantee he will find himself another job, or be able to go back to his old one. The quality of life difference between earning no money and $6 p/h is greater than between $6 and $10 ph

I'm with Ribbo. Play online by bonuswhoring/rakeback. He should build up a bigger bankroll, and get experience.

If $2000 is all he has to his name, then it would be insanity. He can be a great player and still hit a bad run of cards and lose most/all of that. Most people offering advice on going pro say you should have minimum six months living expenses that is not part of your poker bankroll.
