He had raised to 125 3 of the last 5 hands. He had only half my stack and I didn't mind getting it in with him. I guess I should have minraised, but oh well.

He could have, but I don't think he would have raised the flop. I did bet into 4 people, so that shows some strengh I doubt he would want to get pushed into on the flop.

why not just put him all in, raise to 500? its the same thing.

I don't see how you can fold after raising 1/3 of your stack, which is why raising to 300 is an awkward line, it leaves you with no plan if your reraised. if you just put him all in, its easy.
