2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
I recently have moved up from 1/2 to 2/4 and lately I have been playing like a donkey. Maybe it is because the pots look twice as large. Here is a hand that I think I played extremely poorly. Hopefully your abuse will make me play less like a donk.
PokerStars 2/4 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is SB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. 2 folds, MP1 calls, 1 fold, MP3 calls, 1 fold, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks. Re: 2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
Really? I was thinking check call a single bet on the flop and then check/folding the turn if I don't get a flush draw or two pair/trips. Would this line be too weak?

Re: 2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
you should raise to protect your hand. check/calling is pretty weak, especially with top pair.

Re: 2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
I'm assuming now that if I plan to check/raise that I fold if a bet and a raise occurs the action returns to me, or should I three bet in this situation?

Re: 2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
in general, top pair weak kicker is no good against a bet and a raise. the flop is flush coordinated too, so 1 of your potential outs are tainted. i would fold.

Re: 2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
With no reads, I'm either (A) checkraising the flop, (B) betting/3-betting the flop and leading the turn if it's not capped or (C) leading/calling the flop and then leading the turn (stop'n'go).

Check the flop.
Dont say "I am check raising" or "I am check calling" Instead, take a look at the action, and go from there. |

Re: 2/4 Limit HE hand, please flame me
This is EXACTLY right...
In general, with top pair weak kicker in very early position, particularly if the top pair is high and not susceptible to too many overcards (so aces or kings), you should execute a "two-way check." If it's bet and raised, you can get away from the hand and it costs you nothing to find that information out. If it's checked through, you're probably good unless something really scary comes on the turn. You lead the turn with confidence. If there is a single better, particularly in late position without a lot of intermediate callers, you get the desired value and hand-protection from a check-raise. It's a fantastic play, and so much better than any other option... |
