Getting frustrated - very
I'm just getting very frustrated with the Brick poker rooms.
I log some major hrs on on-line play - playing at paradise, Party, pacific and ultimate bet. I do well at 2-4 and 3-6 on-line. but I have some problems playing at the local card rooms - in particular Hollywood Park (for those of you that know). I realize I have much to learn. My problem is I consistantly lose at Hollywood P. I play 2-4 and 3-6 - and it seems I'm always getting out-drawn. The players there are loose - capping the Pre-flop bet with rags like J8s - with many players seeing the flop. It's just such a different game to the on-line games I'm used to. Much looser. I seem to be having problems adjusting to this style of play. It's almost like pair's - even QQ, KK and AA - never hold up. Does anyone have any pointers and adjusting from the tight on-line game to these live poker games? Thanks. |

Re: Getting frustrated - very
You are possibly playing fine. But as you point out, these games are aggresive and pots are multiway - so they will be even higher variance than the more typical online games you talk of. It is unlikely that you have played enough hands to know whether you are a winner or loser long term, so it is a real possibility that you are just on a bad run.

Re: Getting frustrated - very
Live play is rigged. The new automatic shufflers are able to arrange the deck to generate action. By giving bad players hands that eventually go on to win more often than they're supposed to, the casinos ensure that the bad players keep coming back to generate more rake. They don't care about the good players because they know they're so cocky, they'll come back anyway.

Re: Getting frustrated - very
This doesn't really answer your question, but if you can beat the 3/6 at party from my experiance you can easily beat the 6/12 at HP. The rake will hurt you a lot less at the 6/12 too which is nice.

On a more serious note, buy Small Stakes Hold'Em by Ed Miller and you will no longer have any problems with these games.

Re: Getting frustrated - very
B&M games are much looser at the entry levels. I play at Foxwoods and 4/8 is barely tolerable. 2/4 is everyone in on every pot and 4-5 at showdown routinely. No fold'em is a different game--and there are players who are very good at it. If you want to play those games, play many hands to the flop and then out play the other players post-flop--which of course means folding most of your hands on the flop. You'll get paid off with your winners. Winners are going to be 2 pair or better most of the time though.
I find the 10/20 to be about equivalent to 2/4 at party. But there's the bankroll to consider. Good luck. |

Re: Getting frustrated - very
didn't read all the answers, but I suggest this (from my experience in games like this)
put a lot more value on suited connectors and low pockets. Play for those big multiway pots where your monsters win you big pots. Also don't try bluffing against people to dumb to see what's happening. |
