Default 40/80 preflop 88

FWIW, I think this decision is pretty easy, but wanted to make sure.

40/80 live in East Chicago. A good, tight player limps UTG, Yugoslavian Guy (YG) raises in EMP, and a drunk LAG whale (DLW) 3-bets from the CO. I have 88 and the Button. Both blinds are tight.

Ahh ... player reads. YG is a non-regular who is new to the table and has played maybe an orbit and a half. My intuition/ethnic stereotyping says that he's a little bit loose, but this isn't based on anything substantive. DLW, though an all-around good guy, is not a very good poker player and is probably 3-betting with at least 30-40% of his hands in this spot. He's not completely bereft of hand reading skills after the flop but doesn't seem inclined to act on them and will play back / call down with any pair or semi-decent draw. FWIW, my table image at the time was tight.

Call, fold, raise? Is it close?

I tend not to get as frisky as others with these hands, but I think a 4-bet is in order here.

I'm tight and uncreative so I fold.

4-bet to (a) represent a monster and (b) possibly get the drunk HU.

[/ QUOTE ]this is a live game so the original raiser will almost NEVER fold and the UTG guy might not either. i think its "close," but fourbetting is more fun...

I also 4-bet and I don't think its close, but it's likely a mistake to think they give a crap at all about what you are representing.

I would feel my hand is too good to fold, so I would raise, most likely eliminating both blinds and possibly also YG, given your table image.

And the one time I capped with 8-8 the flop also came 8-8-x. So history is on your side.

I'd rather take the flop 3 ways than 4 and it seems very possible that UTG will dump when it's 3 back to him so I'd 4-bet.

BTW, I 4-bet in a very similar situation yesterday with 99 from the SB. 88 from the button looks goot to me.

Can you please explain the rationale for 4 betting? It looks like a stupid ass play to me.
