Re: bad position with low trips
My reply is a bit result oriented. Please, don't post results together with the hand.
So ..... Considering he is UTG he must have something reasonable. This is especially obvious on the flop where he checks and then raises after a bet and 2 callers. The mini-raise looks like a trap. 2 pair? Possibly - but which? Unlikely to be 7/4 since he played UTG pre-flop. 8/7 is far more likely as is the possibility that he has a set. Other possibility is a straight (65s pre-flop). When the extra 8 hits on the river then it is hard to think of a hand that you could be ahead of. I would doubt he would bet out with a straight on a paired board. Of course, some of this is read dependant. |

Re: bad position with low trips
I'd 3-bet the flop and call a push, if he has the straight - so be it (and you still have outs to fill up)
There is still a lot of people of in the hand and this board is pretty draw heavy and you really don't want to see a scare card hit the turn to kill your action / hand. If you even consider folding this hand, do so after 3-betting the flop and getting re-raised all-in and re-evaluating your odds. |

Re: bad position with low trips
thanks!!! I like this line! When I think about it, of course it's stupid to just call his reraise and give drawers better odds. thanks

Re: bad position with low trips
When I play 44, I can't lay it down when I hit my set. I like re-raising the flop to isolate the villain and force out the other limpers (someone could be on a straight draw). If I can get all-in heads up with the villain, I'm happy. I'm okay with my set losing to an overset. I'll make it back in similar situations in the future.
