Re: Trips on good looking board...
It's called a set!
Bet more the flop, something around like 4/5 of it. Fold the turn. IMO you are beat. Any read? |

Re: Trips on good looking board...
I think you played the turn fine. He might have hit 2 pair here and he thinks he bad beat you or he picked up a pair and straight draw. Even if you are beat, you have outs. definitly a call on the turn. Looks as though you might have been outdrawn but nothing you can do about the river.

Re: Trips on good looking board...
bet more on the flop, full pot...there's a very dangerous straight draw there.
i'd probably call the turn at that point, looking for the board to pair up. |

Re: Trips on good looking board...
Why would you call looking for a pairing board? The pot odds are way -Ev. You should have potted the flop, but you let him catch, and now ur toast. I fold emphatically and furiously.

[/ QUOTE ] the pot odds are only slightly -EV. you have to call $6 to win $28 and you'll boat/quad up close to 20% of the time. the implied odds from a made straight are huge. there's also the (small) chance that you're still ahead of connectors that hit two pair rather than the straight. |

Re: Trips on good looking board...
Just a question, as far as the preflop play is concerned, are any of you guys going to put in a raise here?

Re: Trips on good looking board...
Well of course I hate money haha. No just an honest question, very new at this and also have seen that I do make mistakes with my medium pairs.

Re: Trips on good looking board...
Medium pairs derive all their value from their ability to hit sets. Because sets are so deceptive and so powerful, you can often get someone's entire stack when you hit, so they're always worth playing. However, given that you only hit a set roughly 1 time in 8, they're speculative hands that you want to see a flop cheaply with. Therefore, you want to invest as little money as possible before the flop. Make sense?
