Please help my wife....
So I have decided to let the wife clear some bonuses on Absolute while she's on maternity leave. She has never played poker in her life and isn't particularly numerate.
What strategy would be the safest (i.e. not to be rude, but the most idiot-proof) way for her to break-even at micro-limits? I’m thinking No Limit is a lot easier than Limit so how’s this for a plan for NL $0.1 / $0.25? - Buy-in for the minimum always at a table with at least 8 players - Push AA-JJ and AK pre-flop from any position whatever the action. - If she doubles up, quit & find another table. - If the table drops below 8 players sit out until it fills up again Therefore she’ll be playing less than 1 hand in 30 and will need to earn about $1.3 per hand played (assuming average of 9 players per table) to break-even. For anyone who has played these limits, does this sound feasible? Will she get called enough to make $1.3 per hand for this range? If not, can anyone suggest an alternate strategy she can follow that is basically just push / fold PF? Thx in advance... |

Re: Please help my wife....
You can't teach her basic poker in a day or two? There's also some pretty straight-forward books out there.

Re: Please help my wife....
You may not believe this but having played the .50/1 NL and .10/.25 NL at Absolute poker, I found dumber players on the .50/1 NL tables.
To be honest, I can't see an all--in being called preflop unless she buys in for about $10 instead of the max buy-in . Then I think the strategy would probably work as long as she keeps her money at around $10 and doesn't go all-in for $4 or something which would mean multiple callers which you don't want. I would think that it might be possible to win more money if she just played pocket pairs and bought in for $15 and called $1 raises preflop with 22, 33, etc to try and hit a set then pushed all-in on flop or turn when she hit. |

I just want the lowest risk way for her to clear the bonuses. I don't really want her to try and play post-flop unless the instructions are incredibly simple. |

Re: Please help my wife....
And she's so bored she wants to follow simple instructions folding 80%+ of the time?

Re: Please help my wife....
You think KK and AA hold up well against 4 or 5 other players ?

You could tell her to start reading this forum to sharpen her skills, but if she finds this thread she's gonna kill you.

Re: Please help my wife....
You could add:
Call all smaller pocket pairs, push all sets. Going allin with JJ a lot is probably not such a hot idea. |

I don't think AK is either, although there's not much in it, will increase the variance though without adding much profit
