zee\'s and mason\'s 7card stud book
I'm looking to start playing some 7stud, and i saw for 2+2 there are two books, the high low split and the just "seven card stud" book.
However, in the description seven card stud is included in the high low split book. Im assuming this means seven card stud high low split or something, so was planning to just go ahead and get both books since id like to know both forms. Is this recommended, or should i only get one or the other? Maybe there are some other books i should look into that you may advise? thanks. |

Re: zee\'s and mason\'s 7card stud book
7 Card Stud For Advanced Players is Stud High Only, while High Low Split Poker For Advanced Players is for 7 Card Stud Eight or Better, and Omaha 8 or Better. I highly reccommend both to you.

Re: zee\'s and mason\'s 7card stud book
Both are superb. 7CSFAP is somewhat more essential, if you have to choose one for some crazy reason.

Re: zee\'s and mason\'s 7card stud book
HLSPfAP is probably one of the most overrated books in the 2+2 library. It is more conceptual than strategic, and way overpriced unless you play both games for good stakes.

WHA?? The stud section is quite good, and while basic, I think the Omaha 8 section has some great things to say!

Maybe there are some other books i should look into that you may advise? [/ QUOTE ] I like Roy West's book. I forget the title, something about 42 lessons. The 2+2 book is good, but IMHO it's more a compilation of Jedi Mind Tricks to use on your opponents. West spends his ink showing you the specifics of how to play different kinds of hands on each street. I read Ashley Adams' book, but I don't recommend it. It does a great job of preparing you for your first trip to a cardroom, but if you have any poker experience at all it's not worth buying. jafager |

Re: zee\'s and mason\'s 7card stud book
So do you want a beginners book on Stud or how to learn Jedi Mind Tricks. Easy choice! I disagree about your assessment of Stud for AP. It's excellent. I don't like an approach where an author will show you how you play every possible situation on every street (or attempt to). Stud is too complicated to do this, and S, M, and Z's approach to teach you the general principles and some advanced plays is better. Much more consistent with the way TOP was written.

7 Card Stud : 42 Lessons How to Win at Medium & Lower Limits by Ken Warren Has anyone read that yet? [/ QUOTE ] The book with that title is by Roy West, not Ken Warren. My suggestion is this: If you are very new to casino poker, and you want to start with stud, read Ashley Adams' book and go play low limit for a while. If you have even a little experience playing any poker game in a casino or online, start with Roy West's book. That should be enough to beat games under 10/20. When you're ready to move up, or if you find yourself playing against tough competition (and in my experience, as you move up in stakes, stud players get a lot tougher a lot faster than hold'em players), then go read the 2+2 book. My point is not that the 2+2 book is bad (it's not), or that it will steer you into bad habits (it won't). What it fails to do is beat into the head of the beginning stud player certain truisms (two small pair is a trap hand, small straights are usually unprofitable, small flushes are often beaten by bigger flushes, chasing is often the correct play, etc.) that are not obvious and that can be very expensive to ignore. jafager |
