Are there any good biography and/or auto-biography poker books out there? If so which ones? And why did you like them?
I understand that most of these books won't talk about poker strategy, but I am just interested in how the pros got where they are today. So basically, I am looking for some poker books that discuss how they got from being a beginnning poker player to a good/great poker player. I am NOT as interested in there life story as I am interested in how they became successful, if that helps you with the list of books. |

You should check out Matt Matros' new book.
Although Matros is not yet a poker superstar, he is a considered a solid player who can hold his own at the highest levels. I am only about half way through this book but am finding it a very good read. Matros goes through a great story about how he progressed through the different levels (friendly home games to pro tournaments) and how he adapts to different styles and games. I recommend it. |

PokerProdigy:
The Making of a Poker Player by Matt Matros sounds exactly what you are looking for. I just finished reading it and it is a very good read. It is not a strategy book by any means but is a light entertaining read to see how someone steps up in level from home games to more advanced limit levels and takes a shot at some big events by playing satellites. While you do not learn any poker strategy per se, I think it is worthwhile in that Matt stresses the need to read poker books, seek out mentors, discuss hands with peers and do everything in your power to keep learning. |

Education of a poker player by herbert O Yardley.
Moneymaker's book is good. Aces and Kings is very good. Amarillo Slim in a world full of fat people is good. |

Education of a poker player by herbert O Yardley. [/ QUOTE ] I totally forgot about that one. I vote for reading it, but be sure to ignore the strategy, unless you plan on playing some five-card stud in the near future and have nowhere else to turn for tips Plus, the heart attack story is priceless. |
