Default Heading for No Mans Land

My blind play is uncomfortable at the moment. Maybe I am running cold there (probably true) but results lately have been poor. This hand may be symptomatic of my general jitteryness.

The table has very recently become Heads-up. Opponent is loose-average aggro 30+/10-, cold calls a lot OTB, quite tight post-flop (WtSD 32). One of the better players for this site/limit though obviously nothing much, his play suggests he is capable of thought. These stats/reads based on 4-5 handed play.

PokerRoom $3-$6 (5-handed) 2 players

Naphand is BB with 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

Pre-flop: (2 players)
SB calls, Naphand checks.

Flop: (2 SB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Naphand bets, SB raises, Naphand calls.

Turn: (3 BB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 players)
Naphand checks, SB checks.

River: (3 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)

This is a tweeny hand that nobody really wants to play, it is too soon to know if opponent has "adjusted" to HU play.

The flop is very drawy so there is a good chance this raise is for the flush or straight draw, could be 2nd-pair good kicker. As I didn't raise PF he won't be "re-stealing" from me IMO. My kicker stinks. Turn and River complete some draws/make 2-pair hands.

So who thinks which line is best here:

(i) 3-bet the flop, lead Turn and River. Do you fold to raise on Turn/River, do you check-fold the Turn if the flop is capped?

(ii) SNG. Call the flop raise and lead the Turn/River, folding to a raise.

(iii) The above line was perfect against a loose player of average/low aggression... Do you call a Turn and River bet?

In this spot I tend to give players like this some credit for hands, until they show me otherwise. Too much aggro and stealing can cost a lot of chips if they catch for a few hands. The Turn check behind makes it clear this is a drawing hand, but how nasty is that River? I think my line is way too passive but that said, I am still probing for information here.

I think I like line (i), though mixing it up and playing line (ii) can't be all that bad. It's a HU match and you have top pair, you need to play it as such.

The river . . . well, sucks to be you

This is a bit off-topic, but the rake is probably prohibitive HU at the 3/6 level isn't it?

You're forgetting that Stars actually cares about customer service. I believe they adjust the rake for heads-up play.

Gotta 3-bet that flop against this kind of player.

I would 3bet flop and bet all way. No need to think he got an 8, more often he will have a flopped pair lower then yours with a random higher card.

If he raise turn or river I would fold.

Not me. I'm taking this hand to the end HU. If I'm beat, then he'll get paid off.

I'm confused.. you talk about leading and check/folding, etc, but you're in position vs the SB in the hand history. Is this messed up somehow?

SB has the Button. SB obviously acts first PF but thereafter BB acts first.
