Default Screw the Slowplay (and Love Those Donks)

Gotta post this one....

Party Poker 0.5/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. MP3 posts a blind of $0.5.
UTG raises, Hero 3-bets, 1 fold, MP2 calls, MP3 (poster) calls, CO calls, 3 folds, UTG calls.

Flop: (16.50 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (5 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, MP2 folds, MP3 calls, CO calls, UTG calls.

This is the bit of content for the post. My reasons for betting the flop and risking everyone folding was this, and it's a trend I see.

It's so common to see people slowplay flops of trips or better, that a flop bet seems to get less respect than a check, bet/raise on turn.

In this case, it flashed through my head that after a pfr, a check on the flop and then a bet/raise on the turn would make people positivly believe I had sandbagged an ace, and so fold. I thought that a bet on the flop was, in fact, deceptive because of peoples strong tendencies to slowplay this kind of hand.

Just my 2 cents...

Turn: (10.25 BB) 3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, MP3 calls, CO calls, UTG calls.

River: (14.25 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (4 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets, MP3 calls, CO folds, UTG raises, Hero 3-bets, MP3 calls, UTG caps, Hero calls, MP3 calls.

Final Pot: 26.25 BB

UTG turned over 7 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] for the rivered full house and CO showed K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] K [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. Gotta love those donks

There is a good chance that pot would have been around 8-12BB instead of 26 had you attempted a slowplay. Perfectly played.

Very well done. I just played a hand like that today, except check/raised on the flop, when I flopped quad 10s.

Check raise on the flop gives you hand away. I belive his point was that if you just bet-bet-bet it might lead some people (donks) to belive your just betting OC's or are just overly aggressive.

It helps that some people do play this way. bet-bet-bet with nothing on scary boards.

People who say this just don't understand slowplaying in my opinion. Hell most people don't understand slowplaying.

I'd have to agree, but slowplaying is not correct most of the time at the .5/1 and 1/2 levels or lower based on the normal player base

but totally ignoring it isn't the solution, slowplay when the circumstances warrant
