Bottomset was putting this within the signup list, but I figured it deserved its own thread because no one was voting there. Please, only respond if you're interested in participating in the Grand Microlimit Heads Up Tournament.

Re: Poll: Format for Micros HU Tourney
I have another question: does Stars have a minimum on inter-account transfers? If they do, it'd seem that transferring the winnings might be difficult. Any ideas about this?

Re: Poll: Format for Micros HU Tourney
I vote for a higher buy-in, at least $25. We should also require some srious micro board activity as a prerequisit. Strangers should be disallowed. We don't need HU specialist registering a new account to steal our jackpot. Most regular micro contributers should be similarly green at HU.

Re: Poll: Format for Micros HU Tourney
Hmm, then I guess any buy-in will have to be at least the minimum that can be transferred between players, unless the poll dictates higher. Everyone transefers their buy-in to the designated organizer who pays out the winnings based on the approved payout structure. Additionally, everyone is responsible for 25 or 50 BB at 0.02/0.04 ($1-$2) for each match they play in, and you get to keep all winnings from your matches. Alternatively, with no buy-in, the winner receives something on the order of $10 and a whole lot of glory, and all us HU chumps get to play on the cheap.

Re: Poll: Format for Micros HU Tourney
Posting to show interest in playing. The structure doesn't really matter all that much to me though. I kinda agree with what droolie says, ie. no complete unknowns. But at the same time I don't like excluding people. Though it would be pretty neat to see how many of the regular micro folks do against each other.

Re: Poll: Format for Micros HU Tourney
In a Swiss draw tournament, there are a given number of rounds based on the number of entrants (I think it's 6 rounds for 64 players, but correct me if I'm wrong). For the first round, each entrant is randomly paired against another. In the second round, all the winners are paired against winners, and the losers against losers. For each round, you're randomly paired against someone who has the same record as you, unless there are an odd number of people with a given record. Then someone plays up, and someone plays down. If there are an odd number of people total in the tournament, one lucky person in the lowest bracket gets bye and a free win.
The question about stakes means that everyone has to pay $5 plus the costs of all matches to play. Since we'll be playing at Stars 0.02/0.04, that will be $1 or $2 per match. The buy-in money will be the primary funding of the prize pool for the winners. I don't know how we could effectively enforce a "Micros only" rule. Post count is tough, since we might still get people with a high post count from the higher limit boards. It seems that the best way to do it would be with a request based on the honor system that if you regularly play above 2/4, stay out! Edited for grammar, and a little clarity. |

Re: Poll: Format for Micros HU Tourney
Sweet. I guess there need be no limitations on a minimum buy-in, and we can have people who won a few matches, but who didn't finish in the Top X transfer their winnings to augment the prize pool for the winners.
