Mirage 10-20: What to do in a capped pot preflop
This happened about 128 days ago, and it's been eating at me for 127 days...so to set my mind at ease, I decided to post it here and see what you guys thought:
10-20 Mirage: Typical Tight Aggressive lineup. I'm sitting in the CO....It's raised UTG....it's 3 bet by a MP and capped by an MP + 2....I look down and see 7c3h..This was a tough decision. In one instant, if I call I'm certain the Blinds will call because of pot odds, meaning everyone will call....so I'll be getting 5 to 1 on my money....so they'll be 200 in the pot even before I see the flop and you know what else I have....the very important POSITION!!!!...Hmmmmm.... Weighing all these options, I made my decision... My question to all of you is... What's your play???? |

Re: Mirage 10-20: What to do in a capped pot preflop
Blat, I think this is an easy fold. You have to consider that you are in the cutoff, not the button, and it's already been capped.
You don't want anyone behind you. If you were on the button, I'd say it's a clear call. If there was a 5 bet cap, I'd 5 bet it to try to drive the button out. You simply calling the 4 bet will give the button odds to call with his 74s. You certainly don't want this. There's just too good a chance of making the dreaded second best hand with your 73o and the button behind you. |

Re: Mirage 10-20: What to do in a capped pot preflop
I think w/o a doubt this is an easy fold, you can be very sure that you have to hit twice and then pray that the board doesn't pair. The only flop that would be good for you would be 4-5-6 rainbow, then you're still hoping and praying to not get killed by the next 2 cards. If you can call w/7-3o then you might as well call w/any 2 random cards. I just don't see the point in burning your chips here no matter what your odds. I don't know if you actually played the hand or just wish you would have, but I wouldn't even think twice about playing this hand.

Re: Mirage 10-20: What to do in a capped pot preflop
This is an easy call (or raise if your cardroom allows 5-bet cap). The implied odds on 37o are tremendous, you can't let this opportunity slip away. Over the 'long run', these are the types of hands that make or break a player. Since there was a raise, 3-bet, and cap, they have all of the high cards, so that means a flop of 3 3 3 or 7 7 7 is damn near a sure thing, and you'll get plenty of action from both of the AA's and both of the KK's out there who are all drawing dead. Plus, even on the off chance you don't hit your quads, you have the luxury of your TWO flush draws to fall back on.

raise all in. when they tell you you can't, flip the table over and do a few laps around it at full speed screaming. Then come to a halt and blow your head off with a sawed off shotgun.
It's not very good advice, but it's the best I got. |
