Sorry no reads. Just another way in which I suck.

Re: 77 against a PFR
Without a read, I play it the same. I'm pretty sure I suck more than you though.

Re: 77 against a PFR
i don't see any other way to play it without a read.
what was your plan for either the turn/river if raised. if you lost this, i think you got off cheap on the river. |

[/ QUOTE ] I was going to fold to a raise on the turn or river. Yeah, I have an overpair, but it's a weak overpair, and I don't think AK bluff-raises this turn or river very often. |

I like the way you played it. Betting the flop allowed him to protect your hand for you.

I was going to fold to a raise on the turn or river. [/ QUOTE ] pretty much what I was thinking. i think with a read on the guy as passive you can call the flop raise and check/fold the turn UI. |

Re: 77 against a PFR
So nobody thinks I overplayed this? What hands is he raising PF with and calling the turn and river? Doubtful he'd call with ace-high here (AK, AQ), and if he has a pair it's likely to be better than 77. Right? Aren't I better off check-calling the river to induce a bluff from AK? Because I don't see him calling this river with a worse hand -- if so, what hands are you guys putting him on that we want him to call the river with? (After I 3-bet the flop, there's no way he'll think AK is good).

Re: 77 against a PFR
I think I would check the river for the reasons you said. I can't seem him calling without a pair and if he has one it's bigger than yours.

Re: 77 against a PFR
I tend to disagree with this line of reasoning. I think it is quite reasonable to expect that AK or AQ is going to call a bet here but almost certainly will not bet the river. So I don't like the argument that a check on the river is better to induce a bluff. I also don't particularly like the argument that a pair is the only thing that's calling and/or that my opponent most likely has a pair.
I bet out here on the river. I also think very seriously before folding to a raise, also. A river raise here makes very little sense with any of the hands my opponent could have (would he really play something like 10 10-KK like that... maybe AA, but that's about it). So I think a river raise will be a bluff often enough that calling is necessary. |
