Default Ax in SB...how to play it?

Regardless of how the hand played out, how do you guys play Ax in the SB. I'll usually complete and if I hit anything on a 1 paint board or a rag board, I'll lead out. Is this a bad idea? If the Ace flops, is it a good idea to lead out even with a bad kicker..this pretty much screams, 'I have an ace' but I have to fold if anyone pushes back as my kicker is awful.

Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.50 BB (7 handed) converter

UTG ($20.20)
MP1 ($36.50)
MP2 ($50.05)
CO ($50.35)
Button ($28.45)
Hero ($62.85)
BB ($15.70)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
1 fold, MP1 calls $0.50, 3 folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: ($1.50) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets $0.75, BB folds, MP1 calls $0.75.

Turn: ($3) A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero bets $2.25, MP1 raises to $4.5, Hero calls $2.25.

River: ($12) 2[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, MP1 bets $4.25, Hero raises to $12, MP1 raises to $16.25, Hero calls $0.

Final Pot: $40.25

Results in white below:
MP1 has 7c 5c (straight, eight high).
Hero has Ah 6h (two pair, aces and sixes).
Outcome: MP1 wins $40.25.

As I said, I hit middle pair on the flop and since the villian was in EP I thought the chances of him having an 8, 6 or 4 were unlikely. Overpair maybe. Villian was a 52% VPIP and a 12% pf raiser...only 80 hands though. My half pot bet was just to see where I stood. Was hoping for either a fold or a raise...neither. I hit my ace on the turn so I bet 2/3s, he minraises..hmmm...I call putting him either on Ax or a flush draw. River comes, I check and tell myself I'll call a smallish bet...he bets 1/3 of the pot, so I call. Did I play this horribly? Is it a bad idea for me to bet into this flop with middle pair oop even with two callers? Since I don't usually play these types of hands with bad kickers, I'm not sure how to play them.

Definitely should have just check-called the river.

While the straight certainly came out of nowhere, he did play it as though he had a strong made hand (like a set) since there were no apparent good draws out until the turn.

Villain probably plays a worse two pair the same way here so this is not a very good option.

I don't mind playing suited Ace-rag but unless I am drawing at the nut flush or hit trips on the rag I am never happy and will wager accordingly.
