Default Any Detroit Natives...?

Hey All,

I am making the move from Crap-hio to D-town this sunday. I have played at both Motor City, Greektown, and Windsor Casinos, and wasn't impressed with any of them. I play mainly 3/6 and 5/10 LHE. What are the best times for good games? I know the Casino Windsor 10/20 is good most nights, but I don't have the bankroll for it. I prefer Greektown to Motor City, but I went to Motor City right when they opened the poker room. Any improvements since? Are there any poker clubs in the detroit area? Thanks!

I am from D-town (why in god's name would you move here), but I have yet to check out poker at the casinos. I've talked with A C Slater a bunch about them though, so you should pm him. But what up to a fellow detroiter.

the game is very good. you will probably be surrounded by complete morons.
my advice:

the stacks are short. its $100 buy in but the blinds are 1/2, so you only have 50 BBs to start. also the preflop raises will be different than you may be used to online. when youre raising, raise it a lot. remember these guys are there to gamble. ive seen people call all ins preflop with hands like Q9o. they will also pay extreme amounts to draw. dont be timid.

theres a time charge every dealer change, no rake. just put out 6 bucks when this happens.

also- you know the pistons dont play in detroit right?

I am from the Detroit area, and personally my favorite room is the Windsor room. The staff (comparitvely) is decent, it's non-smoking and is pretty soft. Unless you are playing no-limit or PLO, avoid Greektown at all costs, their staff is terrible, the waits can be 4+ hours at peak time, and they have this terrible habit of not answering their phones (that's when the line is not busy).

Above all else, my best advice would be to not move to Detroit. The economy around here currently is TERRIBLE.

I played in a great 5/10 game at Greektown a couple months ago when I was in Detroit on business. The baby NL games seemed to be very popular in the room. The dealers at Greektown were pretty good but the floor seemed to careless. This only presented itself as a problem when the floor was called for a decision and it took them 10 minutes to wander over to the table and when they arrived it was very apparent that they were not poker savvy.

I think I'm headed up to Detroit to visit a friend over Memorial Day weekend. I'm going to try to check out some other rooms then.
