How to know you found a good table (NC)
After having a bad couple of weeks playing tournaments I decided to go down to the local casino and play a little 3/6. After about 15 minutes I noticed there were about 3 players at the table seeing 70% of the flops, playing them to the river, and occasionally calling down with bottom pair on a draw filled board.
Then after about 30 minutes I observed this hand. Three limpers to the flop which came 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. UTG bets, MP1 folds, MP2 calls. Turn: Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] UTG checks, MP2 Bets, UTG calls. River: K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] UTG bets. MP2 makes a grudging call and as soon as she does UTG says "you got it, I just have Jack-four", to which MP2 replies "nope, I think its a split, I have Jack-Ten". All looked very promising at this table and I left 5 hours later after losing about $140 . After five hours the best hand I had made by the river was a pair of Aces . Oh well, I will be definitely be returning to get my money back sometime . |

Re: How to know you found a good table (NC)
That's funny - I played a little 3-6 myself this weekend and lost $30 (basically the rake) after 5 hours. I was down $100+ halfway thru the session when most of the fish left as they ran out of $. They got replaced by decent players, and I recouped most of my losses.
I guess my point is that casinos suck if you have a job because there's not enough time for the sample size to sort itself out against horrible players; unless you live down the road and play every day, it's almost like playing blackjack. The rake is a mother too. Thank goodness for online play. |

Re: How to know you found a good table (NC)
yeah, I love playing live, but playing small stakes live is bad. The players are terrible, but so is the rake. My local casino rakes a $10 pot for $3, so if I'm playing a 2/4 game (I havent played this in a year, now playing 10/20 live...but the pt is still valid) and I raise preflop and the blinds calls and check fold the flop, I get 4+4+4-3=9 dollars, 4 of which was mine, plus the $1 toke (everyone tokes a dollar, even in such a small pot) = 9-1=8-4 = $4 net profit. Online it would be $8 net profit.
