Default 20-40 Borgata hand

I got criticized by a player at my table for the way I played this hand. I thought I played the hand ok. Any comments would be appreciated.

20-40 Borgata

at the table for about a 1/2 hour before this hand - table seems lagish

MP1 limps
MP2 raises
LP reraises
SB (me) JJ call
MP1 and MP2 both call

flop comes K J 9 (rainbow)

I bet, both MPs fold, LP raises, I call

turn is a rag: I check, LP bets, I raise, LP calls

river is a rag: I bet, LP calls

i lose: he shows KK

you played it fine

i like how you waited till the turn to raise because it was heads up.

the villain in this hand is an idiot, and not 3-betting there is so weak tight i'm guessing the guy was like 65+

Which street did he/she complain about?

I may be a relative noob, but this looks pretty damn standard...

You played the hand quite well from start to finish. You actually saved a couple bets as I feel KK underplayed his hand here. Set vs sets are always nasty when on the bottom end but you got out fairly cheap.

Your play was fine. A case could be made for check raising the flop to push out gutshot draws, but you would have ended up in the same spot.

I have played the Borgata 20-40 several times, and my experience is that only the bad players criticize the play of others. The good players keep their mouths shut.

The critic thought that I should have check called the turn and river. At the time, I thought it was an idiotic comment, but I just wanted to make sure since I'm new to live action, and it appears to me that the difference in play between B&M and online is substantial.

I'm surprised that no one questioned whether a fold pre flop was considered. I don't think this hand would have played out any difeerent had the flop come 2,4,7, rag and under cards on the turn and river. I agree a fold pre-flop is hard but it was very easy to think that you would be drawing two only two outs and having to pay 2 bets to do so.

folding this preflop would be a very big mistake without a good read on the 3better. Flop is good, I would lead out the turn if I thought he would still raise with AK, but against most players the c/r is right.

You should be thankful for him saving you bets.
