Default Funny story how i lost to my opponent who was drawing dead !!(story)

Hi all, Wanted to share a story with everyone about how just today I played in a 40$ (£20+2) rebuy tournament in my local casino, and somehow in one hand i lost an 8000 chip pot with my opponent drawing dead. There is a lesson to be learnt!

To give a little background, this tourny is a weekly event at the circus casino, Manchester. Starting chips 1000, with 50-100 blinds for first hour. This is my first ever time ive played a live casino game and was a little intimidated at first. When i mean insane- this game takes the prize. It was unlimited rebuys for 2 hours and on my table one guy bought in at least 10-15 times. All in hand after hand with 36o etc. It was mad. After about 10 hands i picked up KK and decide to put in all my chips. I get called 3 times. Im up against T5o, JTs and 89o. My kings fail to hold when the 2 tens come on the flop. Ok, a little unlucky but what the heck im having fun.

After about another hour i have a healthish stack of 5.5k. UTG+1 limps (hes very loose already rebought 4 times), I raise in middle position with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (dubious i know) i get called, and limper goes all in for about 2.5k. I take a gamble and call. Player after me calls too. Flop comes something like 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]7 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I decide to raise to isolate the all in thinking i have the best hand. He folds. Villain Shows 3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Someone proclaims that they mucked a 3 so im hoping to catch an A or J to get a healthy amount of chips.

Turn comes J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Phew ive made my pair to take all this guys chips. River comes 3 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. I think damn hes made the case 3 to treble up. Slightly annoyed i pick up my cards and throw them in the muck, until my friend to my left proclaims that there are 4 hearts on the board. I didnt even realise i had a heart until i ask the dealer to let me see what i mucked.

I had the Nut flush and threw it into the muck by mistake!! I felt absolutely awful after doing this because i would have had a great amount of chips going into the freezeout period and with only 1 rebuy. Being only 19 this caused quite a bit of humour with all the older players that are evidently regulars here. Thats when one of them said to the guy who had the 3's. You were drawing dead yet you still managed to win! The only 3 left in the deck was a [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] which made me my flush! Anyway to cut a long story short i managed to make it to about 3 hours of play until i went all in with pocket 7's, got call by 2 big stacks and my day ended.

One man did say however that i shouldnt be listening to my iPod otherwise i would have noticed that hearts. Alhough the volume was on such a low level, and i believe this wasnt to blame- i took the headphones out immediately and realised maybe they werent such a great idea.

Overall I had a really great time though and felt some sense of achievement for continuing to play my game and not get put off by the older guys who didnt seem to care about money. I didnt go on tilt and realised sometimes you make mistakes and i learnt a valuable lesson today- Take your time when all the board cards are out and check you havent folded the nuts!!! I wont be taking my music player with me next time so i conecentrate on my game a bit better.

Oh and to just follow up on the rebuys- The prize pool ended up at £8000 ($15,500), despite there being a 70 player field and £1400 (£2,600) initial prize pool. First place paying £4000 ($8000) Now thats not a bad value for money for a $40 buyin and a field of 70. Theres always next time!

Nice story - I enjoyed it.

Some lessons are much easier to remember if they are suddenly and strongly burned into our subconscious as this mucking mistake was for you.

He called an all in with AJ, the other guy had 3-3.

The guy caught his 3 on the river so he thought he lost and tossed his cards into the muck.

The last 3 put 4 hearts on the board giving him the nut flush.

He lost.

He was sad. We laughed.

I agree. I can guarantee he will never EVER misread his hand ever again. A stumble sometimes prevents a fall.

It's easy to get into a bad habit like that if you play online alot. Can't tell you how many times I've seen the chips coming my way (or not) and then going "D'oh".

If this is live NL tournament don't you have to turn the cards up once all-in? If the cards were turned up even if you then turn em over and throw em into the muck they should have played. At least one other person saw them, did the entire table?

The last poster is right, you should have got the chips anyway. Did you have a dealer?
