Default punishing aggressive tricksters

15/30 B&M.

Villain is an aggressive, tricky player. He's been running over the table with his aggressive play, winning far too many hands than he should w/o a showdown. He will limp in pre-flop with a *very* wide range of hands. He plays very aggressively on the flop and turn. For example, if he leads the flop and is raised, he will almost always 3-bet. He can also get pretty aggressive on the turn (e.g., checkraise w/ middle pair). Overall he is a very good player, and I'm sure he has me pegged as tight-aggressive.

Villain open-limps in MP, all fold to me in the BB. I have 53o and I check.

Flop is 553r.

What is your line of attack to dole out the maximum punishment to the villain?

You bet, he raises. Then what?
3-bet the flop, lead the turn?
call the flop, checkraise the turn?

I think this depends on image to some extent. As a thinking player, if he has seen you fast-play trips a couple of times he may well be reluctant to play back at you.

However, my standard line would be to bet/3-bet the flop (representing the 3), and then hope a nice high card came on the turn, and I could get 3 more bets out of him....

If he is truly a very good player, you probably won't get much out of him with standard play. I like trying the check call, check call, check raise approach on occassion against someone that always bets when I check.

Would you employ this line regardless of whether the turn was a blank as opposed to, say, an ace?

yes. If this guy is pushing people around I want him to think I am just taking a stand. I don't see a reason to get tricky.

I think he has everyone generally pegged as weak, hence, his play. No offense.

He plays very aggressively on the flop and turn.
Check-call, check-call, bet.

c/r the flop in hopes of getting threebet, so you can repeat on the turn. The flop checkraise spells 'I want to take the pot away from you' to a lot of these types. If he just calls, he'll often raise the turn with any hand and you get the chance to 3-bet.
