3 Monitors Could use some help!!!!!!
Ok so I went out today with the intention of buying a 3rd monitor and a 2nd video card so I can play 12 tables.
Here's what happened: 1st computer store I went to told me this was not possible. I would have to buy a video card that could support 3 monitors and they start AT $600 US. My current video card is a Gfoce 6800 Ultra and is like 5x better than any 3 head card I could buy that would support 3 monitors so I don't want to get rid of my current card as I stil play games. 2nd computer store told me this was theorticaly possible and they could take a shot at it but they would make no guarantees for it to work. ( I would have to buy the video card upfront) 3rd Computer store told me this was possible but they were not familiar on how to set it up and they did not want to touch it. It wasn't a simple matter of just "Plug and Play" 4th store I went to told me that it was possible only if I have a very old computer. You used to be able to setup 4 monitors at once by running 2 dual head PCI cards, but with todays technoligy APG cards are not compatible therefore I need a real old machine. (Or something along those lines) Can someone tell me exactly what I need and how to set it up? I'm getting very frustrated. Thank You |

(Or something along those lines) [/ QUOTE ] Most motherboards with AGP only have one AGP slot, thus preventing the use of 2+ AGP video cards. EDIT: Apparently, ALL motherboards with AGP only have one AGP slot. "While the AGP 3.0 specification allowed the use of multiple AGP slots on a board, no chipmaker ever implemented this feature into any chipset to date." (from this page) EDIT AGAIN: Now, having said all that, I suppose you could either use two "old" PCI video cards, or one PCI and one AGP video card. |

Get a PCI video card (this is what I use for my 3rd).

Re: 3 Monitors Could use some help!!!!!!
Go to www.newegg.com or some other such site and order a few PCI GeForce FX5200's for like 50 bucks a pop. You can also use one "good" AGP card and two PCI cards. You can do all the configuration via Windows desktop settings or the NVidia driver utility has a neat little setup you can go through.

Re: 3 Monitors Could use some help!!!!!!
The way it works is you need your AGP dual head card and a second PCI video card capable of NOT being the primary monitor. _Not_ all PCI video cards will work like this. This is why most places didn't want to guaranty anything.

Re: 3 Monitors Could use some help!!!!!!
I don't use Nvidia cards, as I am loyal to ATI, but for me, it was as simple as plug and play. All I had to do was plug in my AGP and PCI cards and install the latest software package.

Update...& Thanks for the help
After getting ready to give up on a 3rd monitor, I found someone who knew what I was talking about and knew how to do it.
I gave them my computer and 3 hours later I got it back. Just hooked it up and everything is working great. Thanks for the help |
