Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
Of course not. Conflict is an unavoidable part of life. I can't understand your reasons for asking that question on a poker website since conflict is absolutely central to our game. Our goal is to take each other's money.
If you feel a need to avoid conflict, don't even think about playing poker. Regards, Al |

Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
I guess we see the term "conflict" differently.I don't think poker is about conflict. But I dont want to argue with you because you wrote a book on poker and i am a college kid with a very limited bankroll.sorry.

Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
yes, now give me money or I will be angry with you.
Here is the deal. There are people who will try to scam you. for example, a dealership tried to sell me a 27k MSRP car for 48k. I refused to cooperate. In relationships, cooperation is not always in the best interest. Some conflicts will occur. If you give a woman total dominance over you, she will be less attracted to you. You won't make it very far if you avoid conflict. You will be broke by people scamming you and working a billion hours a week due to a boss knowing he can get away with doing that to you. Now where is my money? Melch |

Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
No, conflict should be actively sought out. Great people test themselves in great conflicts. To say that conflict is bad is to say that one is not capable of it.

Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
Excellent philosophical question.
Nature seeks to avoid conflict, but conflict inevitably occurs: From the sprouting seed trying to break thru the soil, to the chick trying to break from the egg. From the hunting leopard of the African night, to the aerodynamics of an airfoil on a Boeing 747 jumbo jet. Avoiding conflict is efficient, but mostly unattainable. You can ALWAYS SEEK to avoid conflict, sure, but conflict will no doubt occur. The acceptance of this inevitable conflict then becomes the true goal; going with the flow instead of fighting against the current. Attaining this ACCEPTANCE of conflict then is what you should seek, not the avoidance of it. Thanks much for the question. No doubt I will be thinking about it more. Just Be. Dispatch |

Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
I would've thought you could do better than this response, Dr. Al.
I'm a bit disappointed. It actually is a very good philosophical and phychological question. Keep striving. Dispatch |

Re: should you always seek to avoid conflict?
Sometimes by seeking to avoid conflict you actually create a greater conflict down the road.
