Default (No Content) Why is everyone so damn defensive here?

I've been browsing this forum for a few months now, more often in the last few weeks. My question is: why, when someone gets their poker strategy challenged, are they so quickly to turn defensive? It seems like people take it as a personal attack that others feel differently about how to play certain hands.

And by the same token, why do some people feel the need to jump all over posters that play differently/weaker/fishier than they play? I see this happen all the time and it just leads to ugly threads.

Granted, the discussion around here is usually awesome and very informative. But sometimes reading this threads make me laugh at how quickly people turn from helpful and informative to defensive and condescending.

SHUT UP, it's just like you damn fish to come in here and criticize me, without even the vaguest clue what you're talking about. Jesus, try to just appreciate the damn forum instead of bringing all of this critical crap into the--

Nah I'm just kidding. But it had to be done, right? No?

I think we're poker players, so our egos are going to be naturally inclined to be one size too big, and I think everyone hears things that rub them the wrong way once in a while. I hear waht you're saying but I think the more you read the more you'll find that discussion on these boards is generally civil and well-intentioned.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about, because I am such a better player than you. I mean, I've played 3/6 before. 3/6!!!

(Had to be done back.)

I agree with you that it's mostly civil. I guess tonight there were a few posts that I read and thought, geez man, chill out. Overall though, good job 2+2'ers. You make my massive time wasted on the internet worthwhile.
