Was my raise too small? Should I have been aware of the BB stack? He hadn't really been bullying the table and seemed to be picking his battles wisely. thanks. |

You played it fine in my opinion. If anything I think you raised too much PF unless the table is loose and calling raises for that size consistently. I certainly want action with my KK's and don't look to just take down the blinds.

Tiger, thanks. My thoughts also about not just wanting the blinds. Anyone else think I raised too much? I hadn't thought of that.
Results will follow. |

I think a raise of between 1100 and 1600 is good, you are on the high end, but still within a reasonable range.

Nottom, thanks.
I wasn't thinking of the BB's stack- would anyone make that a factor in their preflop raise? |

Ok, so my preflop raise seems to be supported. After the flop I want to take this pot down against a stack who has me more than covered and bet out about 3/4 of the pot. He calls. OK, WTF?! Set? A-9? Straight draw- not really sure how? Well turns out he stayed with A-6o and made his straight on the turn. Ugh. Anyway, Do you agree with my post flop bet and then my push on the turn? Should I have checked the turn? I don't think so, but what about others. And finally I asked villain would he have called if I pushed preflop and he said no. But like was posted earlier by Tiger, I want more than just the blinds. I followed villain for a while after this beat and he seemed 1) to have a fan club who knew him and thought he was a good player and 2) also said in his chat that he had won this tourny "a few times". Was this one of those situations where I either picked up the blinds or busted out? Anyone play this different on any street?
Thank you, yabastid |

You definitely don't want to push preflop with this hand in this situation. 90% of the time everyone folds and you pick up a measly 600 chips; maybe 6% of the time someone makes a loose call and you double up; and the other 4% someone calls, hits a better hand, and busts you. I hate pushing preflop here.
I would have raised a little less PF to tempt more players into contributing to the pot. Your big raise scared off everyone but the tall stack who seems ready and willing to gamble (his call on the flop seems very loose to me). Otherwise, though, I think you played it fine and the villain's loose play (which he can clearly afford) just happened to pay off this time. Tough luck. But keep making plays like this against players like him, and I think you'll come out well ahead in the long run. Crooked |

Crooked,
Thanks, bro. Kinda the direction my thinking was going as well- nice to have it backed up. Take care, yabastid |

no, your raise is too big. i like to make it 1050 or so at 200/400. pushing would have been way too big. if everyone left to act had fewer than 7 of so bb's, then i'd probably push, but the button had a lot of chips.

Well, if you read my post about KK you would know you just fold this here and cut your losses.
Seriously though, I agree with the others. You want to encourage action with your KK. If the big stack takes a shot at it and gets lucky there is not much you can do. |
