Party 2/4 vs 5/10 vs 15/30
I know this has been brought up before, so I apologize for asking, but I've recently (and perhaps temporarily) moved up to 5/10 from 2/4. My bankroll is 350bb at the 5/10 level, and the new dollar amount has 'scared' me into playing tight again as I should (I was getting careless at 2/4, playing too many hands).
So far SOME of the players seem more aggressive (which also has helped me tighten up, VPIP is at 17% over a paltry 1000 hands), but there is still a decent size chunk of lousy players as well. What really caught my eye, however, was that I poked around the 10/20 and 15/30 tables briefly last night, just to peek, and I noticed an unusually large number of players playing with minimal bankrolls. I'm talking people bringing $200-$300 to a $15/$30 table. I know my bankroll is in no position to play at these levels right now, but are the games that much juicier when you make these 'final steps' at Party? |

Re: Party 2/4 vs 5/10 vs 15/30
Party 5/10 full is known as one of the toughest games on party, I believe. What ever happened to 3/6?
From reading, it seems many posters' progression goes something like 0.50/1.00 -> 1/2 -> 2/4 -> 3/6 -> 5/10 6max -> 15/30...with 1/2 6max mixed in to the levels below 5/10 6max. Just a thought... |

Party 5/10 full is known as one of the toughest games on party, I believe. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah tight as rocks a lot of the time. 5/10 6max on the other hand, is probably the JUICIEST game on the site. I have no idea why, but most of the players there are total donks. The swings are insane though, I'm telling you right now. Initially, you will probably have a tough time dealing with the extra variance, it is obscenely higher compared to 2/4 full. I've both won and lost $500 in a 20 min period before, and I'm a fairly conservative player. Some of these games are as aggressive as any game on the site, so be prepared to go to war when you're up against 1-2 people and you hit nothing on the flop with your overcards. They'll check to you but they ain't folding. It's tough to get used to. Good luck out there. |

A short stop at 1/2 6max maybe isn't necessary, but I think people should play 10/20 6max before jumping to 15/30, generally. |

I think a stop at 1/2 6 max before 2/4 does good to most players. It has done wonders for my small-stakes game.

Re: Party 2/4 vs 5/10 vs 15/30
I would have more than 350BB before you move to 5/10. While 300 is the general rule, this was a number created before internet poker. I personally find that since you are playing so many more hands/hour that one downstreak feels extremely exaggerrated and tilt can play a bigger roll.
This is just my opinion, but I wait until 500 BB before moving up. It makes the initial adjustment a lot easier... Good luck |

Re: Party 2/4 vs 5/10 vs 15/30
This might be a stupid question, but why is it necessary to throw in 6 max steps? I hate playing six max tables (I know, I know, I should play to gain experience at short handed play). What's wrong with progressing from 10-20 full to 15-30 full?

[/ QUOTE ] The 6 max games make you a better poker player, and they introduce you to situations that are more common at the higher Party limits. You need to learn how to play against aggressive opponents in short-handed pots to beat the 15/30. Also, the 5/10 and 10/20 full games are bad, and 3/6 -> 15/30 is a huge leap. Oh, and 6 max games are more fun. |

Are there any books on 6-max play?
