Is hit and run poker +EV
I don't know if this happens in higher stakes games, but in the $100/NL ring games people will come in and steal blinds for a few rotations, and leave, and most of the time nobody ever calls these people. Is this type of play profitable?

Re: Is hit and run poker +EV
Are they really hitting and running? I have some doubts. If they are "stealing" a few blinds for a few rotations, I would first think the table is so darn tight that it's not worth playing and they are off to find greener pasture.
Not enough information in your question to answer in more depth, but if they are doing as you suggest, then, no, that is not a winning strategy. Playing good poker is. Onaflag........... |

Re: Is hit and run poker +EV
hit and run poker is stupid. the idiots that do it don't have a fundamental understanding of poker.
i drive for an hour, arrive at the casino and sit down. within the first 20 mins, im up a bill at 3/6(which has happened before). say i decide to get up and leave. whats the difference between for me to keep playing right now, and coming back the next weekened? nothing. the games are the same, the players will be just as sh1tty. its a waste of time for me to drive 2 hours and play for only 20 mins. you keep playing if the game is good. you don't leave just because you're up. you're giving up way too much by leaving a juicy game. sure it sucks to be up a bill within the first 20 mins then cashing out 8 hours later down 2 bills(also has happened). but thats poker. when people ask me how i did at the casino, and i tell them what happened. they will say the same dumbsh1t like "you should of left when you were ahead". i don't even try to explain to them the concept of EV and long term. |

Re: Is hit and run poker +EV
I can relate. How about the morons who seperate their chips into two stacks after getting lucky and being up a rack? I saw a guy a couple weekends ago put $160 a bit to the side and another $40 or so in front of him. The dealer asked about his odd arrangement and he said he wants to go home with a profit this time and will only lose that $40 or so and then leave.
He lost it and left. No worries. He'll be back. Clueless. Onaflag............ |

Re: Is hit and run poker +EV
That's not completely true. It is +EV imo. As an unknown, usually people play tighter against you and give you more credit for hands. If you've been sitting at the table for an hour, they get a read on you and have a chance to adapt to beat you.

I presume this makes sense, as the money I play with loses value, whereas the money in my pocket retains its value. |
