19 and going to Vegas
My buddy is turning 21 this weekend so I am flying out to Vegas with him and another friend(he is 20). His parents are paying for it all, and will be there, but I would like a little advice on the casinos out there. We will probably be playing dumb drunk games(mainly craps) and not too much poker, but my question is should I risk showing a fake ID. I have one and it is pretty good, but I don't really look that old. We will probably be around his parents a lot(they are really cool, will be buying us mad drinks, and maybe even giving us full odds on a few of our bets, +EV basically) so will this help me out. Should I just not use the fake in the casino and use it in clubs and bars, will it be easier there?? I also am prolly gonna have to play a little poker, where should I play? We are staying at the Paris Hotel FWIW. Thanks

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
This is the worst idea I've ever heard of. Casino's are the most security ridden buildings in the World. They are constantly on the lookout for theives and underage gamblers. Can you imagine a casino like the MGM possibly losing it's license over allowing a 19yo to gamble... you might as well be a theif to them. The moment you make one dollar off of them... they will be on you to show your ID... and when you prodcue a fake... not only will you face going to jail... but they will take all of the little money that you have. If you're gonna do it... don't show the fake... unless it's a real ID... and be prepared to show a second form of ID.
And, if you do get seated at a poker table... don't draw out on someone... I've seen the older locals call over a floorperson to check an ID over a young player. Talk about losing all your chips with the winning hand! Do yourself a favor, stay away from the gaming... just try and get drunk and laid. You might be able to small stakes gamble for a while, but it's just definietly not worth the risk. |

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
a few words of advice (from personal experience mostly)
- Don't even attempt to play a single table game, you are very likely to get carded there, especially if you win any kind of money. Don't play slots either. - NEVER even carry your fake into a casino, EVER. - You may try to play poker if you want, if they card you, just tell them you forgot it in your room, pick up your chips quietly and leave. Play at Bellagio, MGM, Mandalay or Mirage. - If you wanna use your fake at a club or bar, thats cool. The worst they will do is take it and throw you out. - Get drunk, get laid. Have fun. |

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
OK, so it seems craps is out of the question, no loss i guess. I am definitely going to get quite drunk, in one way or another, and despite my lack of game, I will work on that other thing. Any other advice would surely be appreciated. Thanks

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
In all honesty Vegas is a place no one should come to until they are 21.
You are far more likely to get carded and in trouble at a nightclub than a casino. You can consider your chances of having to show your ID in a nightclub, bar or convenience store about 100%. If you are found to be underage in a casino you'll have zero chance of playing anymore in that casino until you have proper ID. They will be watching you. If your ID is not believeable, you take your own chances there, I can't say for sure what will be done about it, either in a casino or a bar. Anything from asking you to leave, to confiscating your ID, to the cattle prod is possible. Also, even the free odds bet on craps is not +EV, it's 0 EV. You're not going to get +EV bets playing drunk games, although sometimes the -EV is small enough to where it's ok to play them anyway in the interest of fun and good times. al |

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
Maybe I am just very lucky but when I was 19 I was in vegas doing a lot of gambling and drinking in the casinos. I went to probably 6 Or 7 different casinos that weekend and played at all of them. I did look over 21 and most of them didnt even card me at all. The ones that did let me play. Only one casino asked me to leave but gave my ID back and did not make an issue of it. I think that was Paris. I actually had an amazing run on rullette at all of them and cashed out anywhere from $300-$1000 at each casino I played at. I guess it may have helped that I look over 21 but I never had a problem. Also I had a very good ID.

Also, even the free odds bet on craps is not +EV, it's 0 EV. [/ QUOTE ] This bet is highly +EV when it is someone else's money, as I was inferring. |

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
I'm 21, but probably look like I'm 17. We stayed at the Plaza downtown. I never got carded once anywhere in the downtown area. I played poker and a couple slots, but no bj or craps.
On the strip I got carded everywhere we went. I wouldn't go to Vegas if I wasn't 21, but to each his own. |

Re: 19 and going to Vegas
You might check out Olympic Gardens if the whole "no-game" thing persists. When you get there, ask for a stripper named "Abon" (pronounced, "a bone"... I couldn't make this up). She'll... um... treat you right.
