Standard folds or too tight?
22+R on stars tonight, 40 players remain, 36 cash. Of course I'd like to make the final table, but stealing opportunities were few and far between. A couple of big hand double ups have kept me afloat. Average stack is about 60k.
First, from the big blind. No reads on the villians, they had pretty recently come to the table.: PokerStars Tournament #7060232, Hold'em No Limit - Level XIII (1500/3000) Seat #2 is the button Seat 2: Button (27830 in chips) Seat 3: SB (33316 in chips) Seat 4: Hero (31300 in chips) SB: posts small blind 1500 Hero: posts big blind 3000 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Guelph [Th Tc] 5 folds Button: raises 24680 to 27680 and is all-in SB: calls 26180 Guelph: folds *** FLOP *** [4c Ah 6d] *** TURN *** [4c Ah 6d] [6h] *** RIVER *** [4c Ah 6d 6h] [3h] The SB Call makes this an easy fold, right? (Button's Qh7h beat SB's AKo) Then the next hand... BB in this hand was defending his blinds strongly, so I had a pretty good feeling that playing this hand would be for all my chips. I might've been able to push to get rid of the BB and iso the raiser. PF raiser recently came to the table as a pretty big stack, really hadn't seen him do much of anything yet. PokerStars Tournament #7060232, Hold'em No Limit - Level XIII (1500/3000) Table '7060232 32' Seat #3 is the button Seat 4: Hero (28150 in chips) Seat 5: BB (21709 in chips) Seat 8: UTG+1 (76880 in chips) *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Guelph [2s 2h] UTG+1: raises 6000 to 9000 Everyone else folds Hero: folds BB: raises 12559 to 21559 and is all-in UTG+1: calls 12559 *** FLOP *** [2d 8s 8c] *** TURN *** [2d 8s 8c] [6s] *** RIVER *** [2d 8s 8c 6s] [7d] Too tight, or are deuces not worth getting into a fight with? I would have won that hand had I stayed, UTG+1's A8o took out BB's JJ |

Re: Standard folds or too tight?
Thanks for the quick responses.. a couple follow up questions...
Does hand #1 become a call if SB folds? If hand #2 is folded around to me, does it become a push, a complete/fold to raise, or still a fold? If UTG+1 just limps in hand #2, does it become a call, push, or still fold? |

Re: Standard folds or too tight?
Hand 1 I think is an easy call/reraise.
I assume the antes are 150x8 (Why do people never mention the antes?) so you are getting about 31300 : (31300 + 5700 + 27830) Which means for a cash game you would need to be winning just under a third of the time. Given the current tournament situation I would judge you to have to win around 34% of the time to play the hand. While the small blind might well have as good a hand as you the button could be quite weak. I would expect you to be around 38% against their ranges. Hand 2. I don’t think a pair of deuces is good enough. Fold. |
