Re: Messenger Pop Up windows
What messenger? Be more specific. I don't know what windows you're talking about.

Re: Messenger Pop Up windows
Those stupid pop up windows that say messenger service on the top and have a stupid ad in them. Usually an ad for spyware or pop up blockers. I know there is a setting somewhere that will allow me to block these. I just don't know where it is in XP.

Re: Messenger Pop Up windows
One way is via the Services program. It's found in the Administrative Tools folder in the start menu, which may not appear unless the option to display it is checked from the Customize Start Menu box (right click on the start menu, click properties, hit the customize button).
From Services, find the "Messenger" service, and disable it. |

Re: Messenger Pop Up windows
I thought SP2 deactivated Messenger by default. You should also consider getting a firewall since that blocks a lot of other things besides the annoying messenger spam.
Anyhow, to answer your question: Go to Start, Run, and enter "services.msc". Find "Messenger", right-click, Properties, and set Startup type to "Disabled". |

Re: Messenger Pop Up windows
If you don't use msn, you can just go into the options and tell it not to load with windows. A little bit safer than shutting down services if you don't know what your doing.
