I'm sure there are still a few straglers out there who read/post on this forum and have not read Small Stakes Hold'Em by Miller, Sklansky, and Malmuth.

GET IT AND READ IT NOW (don't tell the fish though).

I've read a few other books, some good and played a pretty conservative, yet hole/leak riddled game for months. I've been a bottom feeding small stakes player (10K hands in PT, a pitiful like +.70 BB per 100 hands).

Since I read The Theory of Poker and SSHE one after the other over, my past 3K hands (too small a sample for a concrete result) my BB per 100 is at +4.78 (some due to running well of course).

My biggest biggest biggest weakness was playing hands too passively on the flop.

I win SO many more pots now by having it folded to me by being aggresive.

Being aggresive costs you bets, being passive costs you pots...

Playing small stakes online without having read SSHE is like digging a ditch with a spoon when there is a shovel in the garage.

Yeah I know our sample sizes are small right now but I know the book knowledge is the main reason for the turn around. You can see what they are talking about in practice at the table.

Just reading the cards, bets, position, etc. It's all right in the book, it's amazing. For the longest time I was one of those people who was all "I win a little, but I'd win more if people weren't QUITE as bad. My AA/KK/QQ gets sucked out all the time, stupid morons."

But now I know...think of it this way. The only time I was really "punishing" the fish was when I had an awesome hand and was forcing them to chase. I of course came out ahead (AA/KK/QQ all in my top 5 as far as BB per hand) but this isn't enough to turn a big time profit.

SSHE will teach you how to punish loose fish EVERY SINGLE POSSIBLE OCCASION, not just AA/KK/QQ.

I have to admit, as someone who is pretty new to poker, that I felt the same way at some point. I counldnt believe how much better I was getting after reading.

But, there are certain things that people on here pretty much assume they dont need to tell others to do:

1) breathe
2) read: sshe, hpfap and top
3) own pokertracker

Great line. SSHE changed me from from .5 to 3 BB/100 too. What it helped me with the most was not playing QJo or similar cards in EP. Ok, I got my informercial bit in...Ed, you willing to hire me in your next commercial?

Along with 'next shot is on me' and 'Blatz, lemme take you home for a night of meaningless sex (oh, and I'm into nasty stuff)" this is one of the three sentences I can't here too much.

Getting deeper, which I can because I'm in the midst of a mind numbing 6,000 hand breakeven streak (my mind numbs easy), this is a life philosophy...aint nothing that this doesn't apply to.
