TPGK vs scary board on the river
Two hands of TPGK versus a scary board on the river. How do you like these plays?
Hand #1: The str8 reached on the turn and even more likely on the river. The flush draw made it on the river. I check/called the river because I knew the check would induce a possible bluff bet from this aggressive villian. Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (8 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 1 fold, MP1 calls, 2 folds, Button calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, MP1 calls, Button calls. Flop: (6.50 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players) Hero bets, MP1 calls, Button calls. Turn: (4.75 BB) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players) Hero bets, MP1 calls, Button folds. River: (6.75 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, MP1 bets, Hero calls. Final Pot: 8.75 BB Results soon to follow . . . Hand #2: The str8 draw reached on the turn and even more likely on the river. Backdoor flush on the river as well. This villain was more passive but would checkraise with a very strong hand. Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (6 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is CO with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls, MP calls, Hero raises, 2 folds, BB calls, UTG calls, MP calls. Flop: (8.50 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (4 players) BB checks, UTG checks, MP checks, Hero bets, BB folds, UTG calls, MP folds. Turn: (5.25 BB) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) UTG checks, Hero bets, UTG calls. River: (7.25 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) UTG checks, Hero checks. Final Pot: 7.25 BB Results soon to follow . . . |

Re: TPGK vs scary board on the river
Sure, any Q has you beat. Why do you think he has one? He'll call down with a worse A or K, which is most likely what he has. Sometimes you'll get check-raised by a queen or flush. If the player is non-tricky, you can lay it down, if he bluffs a fair amount, you call and pay him off. The important thing is that you'll be called by many worse hands, and there is no reason to assume he has either the flush or the queen as of yet, so bet.

Re: TPGK vs scary board on the river
I think that the first river should be called. You checked to induce a bluff bet so of course you have to call.
I would value bet the second river. It is true that a Q could check passively because of some fear for the flush but in most cases both the straight and the flush would have bet out on this river HU. |

Re: TPGK vs scary board on the river RESULTS
HAND #1 - villian showed 98o; dont think I missed any bets because he bet the river for me when I checked
HAND #2 - villian showed KTo; missed a bet here I think, surely he's calling (maybe even raising) with two pair |
