i'm considering getting a second monitor in the near future, but i can't decide what to get.
i don't want to spend too much, so no, i'm not gonna get a mad ass quad monitor set up with 21' monitors with 1600x1200 because that is like 5 grand. anyways, i'm looking at one of the following: LCD, 17', max res 1280x1024 CRT, 21', max res 1600x1200 now these are both about the same price. i currently quad table on my 17' CRT at 1280x1024, and the overlap is only a little so it doesn't really disturb me. the LCD would be really nice and small, while the CRT...well it will take up half my desk. so...which should i get? and why? |

right now im 8tabling on 2 21" crts. i cant imagine 8tabling on 2 monitors with overlap. granted, the crts arent very luxurious but neither is a 17" monitor with overlap.
easy decision if you ask me. |

Save up for a 20" LCD. I did and it was well worth it.

tigerdirect.com has some 21' screens selling for $200 (with a $50 rebate), so $150.
for a 20' LCD with 1600x1200 support, it's $750. so...five 21' CRTs for the price of one 20' LCD.... talk about crappy odds here... while saving up for a really nice LCD is a viable option, i'm the impatient type. also, i have never gotten bleedin edge for any computer product. i always get the one generation back, just for cost purposes. as you can see, i can get 5 CRTs for 1 LCD...like whoa! |

i would just wait and not buy anything right now.
if you're going to spend money on something, why not wait and get exactly what you want? if you do either of these, you're going to want an upgrade very soon. bk |

If you want to cheap out even more, get a couple of decent 19" CRTs. They'll display 1600x1200 and require a little less desk real estate. In fact, once I buy my LCDs, I'll have a couple to sell.
