Default Is there any avoiding this?

49 people left in a PokerStars $1 tournament. I've been card dead for the entire thing, but every good hand I've gotten has managed to hold up (9 for 10 at showdown) and kept me alive. I'm slightly below average with around 50k. Villian was recently moved to the table so I don't really have a read on him. Is there any way to not go broke on this hand? And if so.. what is it?

Also, how is preflop? Is limping wrong? Raising or folding better? I was in a situation where I really needed to double up, and there were two people in the hand who I could double through if I hit my set. That was my thinking. The table has been pretty tight for the most part, having a hand this multiway has been unusual.

Getting all in with a flopped set is a good thing, sorry it didn't work out for you.

Yeah, I figured.. it's just rough going out like this after playing for so long. How about my thinking preflop? Is it sound?

I'll be the out of character token dissenter because, hey, I can: If this was a $200 buyin, the flop action from MP1 would mean one of three things: 87 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], a stupidly played AA or a set bigger than yours. UTG could have...I dunno, AA or KQ or something, but MP1's call from a tight player would make me think about it.

Since this is a $1, they both usually have K7o.

yeah, you played it fine on all streets. if i had more faith in the opponents to fold KQ/66 type hands, i might push pre-flop, but here, you're fine. if you fold the flop you're horrible.

the only way to avoid this is push PF and have hime fold which he probably does for close to 1/2 his stack with a pair of 66's unless he's real loose. Once you both saw the flop he's getting all ur chips here.

I think limping with a low PP is a fine play. If you hit the set, you can usually play it for big money, and if you miss on the flop, you get out without spending much for the chance. Hell, you were on the button this time, even which gives you a good shot at a semi-bluff if there's weak action on the flop.

The exception to this is when the blinds are high or you're shortstacked. Then try to raise with a low PP to isolate one player. Isn't this the conventional wisdom? It has worked well for me, anyway.
