Default study tips

I'vd read sshe many times. I now mainly reread sections I have trouble with (overcards, etc.). But I'm rereading it alot :-) Because when I read, it usually seems sensible and straightforward. But when I play there's all these "ideas" from the book swimming around in my head and many times I don't correctly put concepts from the book into use (or misidentify where the concepts apply). My mistakes are often obvious to me when I playback (pt) but in the heat of battle I instinctively revert to my prior plays or just flail because I'm not recalling sshe material I've 'studied'. I don't really feel like I'm "owning" the material.

So what kinds of study tips do others have? Take notes from the book and put them next to your computer? Study then run sims in TTH? How about when you study something and don't see it come up in play for some time, then forget what it was you studied about that particular circumstance?
